Cards beat Georgia Tech 3-0 in Atlanta. Brendan McKay threw 8 innings of one hit ball and outhit the Jackets himself, going 2-4 at the plate to raise his average back up near .400 on the year.

Cards get the sweep ... 5 - 4 over Georgia Tech.

Cards 31 - 4 overall ...

15 - 3 in conference.

Cards got 3 hits today .... Jackets had 11 .... both had 1 error. Have to feel that the Cards stole one today, but I don't know the details, just looking at the final result.

RE: Open Thread - 2017 Baseball Season
UVa is sitting in pretty good position in the conference having played 3 of the top 4 teams in the whole country (according to most of this week's polls). Clemson has a similarly-tough schedule and will face two others of the top 4 national teams in their remaining schedule. Louisville and UNC have easier conference schedules this year and only have to face one of the other top 3 ACC teams (in top 4 of the nation). But both are still to come for them and will shake up the conference standings before the postseason begins. Wake is also a factor in this regard.

#13 Cats ends Louisville 6 game winning streak in the series 11-7. Cats first victory over the Cards since April 15, 2014. Cards own miscues proved to be costly. Cats put up 5 runs in the first, including a throw to home plate that appeared that would have been in time but was instead cut off. Louisville responded by putting runners at 2 & 3 with no outs but a fly ball to short left turned into a triple play. Runner at 3 tagged up but was thrown out at home & the runner at 2 tried to advance when the throw to the plate wasn't cut off but he to was thrown out at 3. A few innings later an apparent routine double play ball went through the second baseman legs & resulted in 3 more runs scoring in the inning for the Cats. Cards trailed 11-0 in the 5 but came back with 7 runs. The game ended fittingly with another Cards miscue, the runner at 1 thought the ball was fouled tipped but was actually a swing & a miss. He was caught meandering between 1 & 2 for the final out.

Ugly indeed. Uglier on the Louisville side however. The rain at the start may have contributed to the ugliness.
