If you go and listen during the pregame I think they sound very good.

The music selection for halftime shows is another story. People want and need to hear the band, and many of the songs from last year were not the kind that emphasize loudness.

It helps to have a huge band - WVU's comes to mind. They came to UC many years ago and they were very loud, but not necessarily all great musicians.

A new, younger band director might be all that is needed to help improve the band.

And I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Frenz - evidently he did pretty well considering the finances he had to deal with.

As a former trumpet player, I'm partial to brass. More brass. Less cowbell. And flutes. And clarinets. And saxophones. And learn to march in a straight line. Why wear military style outfits if you're consistently undisciplined doing the same pre-game routine week after week and your halftime show is a series of amorphous blobs? Might as well come out in tshirts and short pants - it would make more sense. At least you'd no longer be dressed with the expectation of precision. And yes, the entire thing is grossly underfunded.

With that said, Dr. Frenz served us well. I have no complaints. But it was time.

A serious question here... How many pieces in the UC Band? Because I think the "Ohio Marching 110" is bigger. I know the "Pride of West Virginia" (the WVU Marching band) is somewhere around 250 members strong and the annual competition to make the band is HUGE.

The UC band strikes me as being small.

Edit: According to "Wikipedia", the Bearcat Marching band is composed of 160 members...the the "Marching 110" of Ohio U has 230. The "Pride of West Virginia" marches 380 members...so more than double the UC number.

The band currently hovers around 250-260 a year and has been that way for at least the past 4.

There has been a balance issue though. Since the band is an open enrollment class and organization, you aren't allowed to cut anyone with some musical ability. As long as you show up and do some work, you'll stay in.

The only way to fix that is to pull it out of the education area. We're dual funded (still not enough) by both athletics and the Department of Student Life. Each ensemble is class and will give you a credit. Each one is worth one, but you can get quite a few a semester. (Marching - 1, Basketball Pep Band - 1, Concert Band, perc ensemble, and jazz band can give you two).

I've been told the band this year has to forgo two fundraising activities they do that generates quite a bit of money. This money is lost, and those that be that told them they can't do it haven't provided any additional sources.

I'm guessing those white squares are the C-Paw in-lays. Very cool addition to the brick walls.

Looks snazzy though, overall.

It looks exactly how I thought it was going to look, fine. It looks better than those crappy renderings that were posted a while back.

The Nippert minor league team is losing in front of 500 people in Charleston for both teams season opener. There does appear to be 10 hardy FCC fans in attendance.

Funny - no discussion at all on this thread of the season opener even from the most ardent minor league fan.

Same team they lost to last year to open the season. Oh well. Props for tuning in though. I was watching on YouTube, but i think it was on 12 or star64 or something.

If you're looking for discussion, check out the FCC subreddit, small but it should give you your fix, including a small game thread and a post game thread will pop up soon.

I was invited out to one of the numerous local bars hosting watch parties, but opted out this weekend. I could recommend one to you if you're still interested for next game?

Will UC be allowed by Lindner to play the spring game at Nippert?

Yes. But if you sit in the club seats or boxes, you will have to wear blue and orange...

This is a UC board and not an FCC board, is it not?

This is a UC board but our stadium is effectively FC's. Mike Thomas was known as Mic(rophone)). Bohn should be known as CK for Corner Kick or Notch Bohn or FC Bohn.

Agree. Who the freak cares what is going on in Charleston. Hilarious the lengths these clowns will go. Charleston? 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Maybe you should have donated more of the fortune you made peddling BS, then you could name it whatever you want, clown boy. The act is so lame. Come up with something new. 07-coffee3

Based on the current point of the construction, the turf is all lade and being sown back together. I would imagine it will be open to the public again by the end of the week if all goes well.

It will probably take a few months for the new turf to fade to the color of the old, but it wont look bad when it's all said and done.

We are fortunate that FC needs the PITCH April 15 thus ensuring the Bearcats can use the FIELD on April 14.
