I always thought UTC could be a player, but they have little interest in moving up. Their head coach, a UTC alum - winner of 3 of the last 4 SoCon titles & Conf COY, just left to take the same job at Richmond. UTC offered him "a significant increase in salary and a lengthy contract extension" but Huesman, who has been critical of UTC's committment to football, took off. Something is amiss in Mocanooga land.

Which is really telling since Richmond has as much chance at moving up as Elon. Richmond's football facilities are way worse than UTC's too.

I just want to point out that no one has mentioned Kennesaw State yet. That might be a first for an SBCbbs expansion thread.

Best way to poach a CUSA team....tell them "since we can't do anything about your exit fee, your Sunbelt entry fee is $1" with some private back door plan for reimbursement down the road.

Clearly you only offer this to the biggest fish: Marshall, USM, or WKU.

Their other sports are lacking. Their size is small. They have no money because they have very little donors. They have a coach... Great.

You are wanting to bring a coach into FBS, not a university.

They have nothing to offer right now to FBS. And this is coming from someone who would LIKE them in our conference. But they have WAY too many issues to even consider a jump in the near future.

No, Mo State brings little to nothing to the conference and we just kicked NMSU out.

My only argument would be that they are located in a large-ish city so the potential could be there. Now I'm sounding like an AAC fan with market size and all

From talking to their fans over the years they are suffocated by the Big Orange cloud that hangs over the entire state.

RE: if Sun Belt were to expand, what's your ideal result?
I'm kinda surprised the voting is as close as it is in this poll. I figured there'd be one option getting a lot fewer votes than the others (although I had no idea which option that would be.)

If the Belt were to lose any teams over the next 5ish years it will be interesting to see how they handle it. I think it's highly unlikely expansion occurs otherwise, unless the CFP rule changes back to give conferences $1M for up to 12 schools instead of the current 10.

Liberty (since you all here want Virginia and JMU won't leave FCS) and NMSU.

That's just incorrect (missouri state) and misleading (NMSU).

Missouri State has value because they have decent to good basketball, and they are a preferred ask of stAte. Much like how App fans (not all fans) cried for a travel partner, a case can be made to bring Missouri State in to a) improve basketball, and b) ensure stAte is happy.

With NMSU, the only reason they were kicked is because of the crying from the east. Bringing them back football only would be foolish, but bringing them in all sports would improve the basketball portion of our league and add in a 12th football member (assuming that's where we were headed). Both of which would improve the conference. The East could be happy because they'd get divisions and finally become the bus league they want, with only 1 or 2 "fly" games, and the west would get the western team it wants.

LU is kind of a non-starter for us. They can't get in the CAA or the Southern either. And both of them have private schools.

As far as 'being in Virginia' goes, we dont do markets.

---

There's also the problem of getting 2/3rds to vote to admit a member. Some Eastern schools desperately want to shift the conference towards them...Some Western schools are really opposed to that.

The net result will be statis, unless there's something that happens in order to force the issue. And since there's not much out there to do force the Belt to add new teams...and ESPN isn't paying any more money if we expand...no teams will be added for the time being.

I maintain that what got NMSU tossed wasn't the fact that they didn't have support in the league with the full voting members when they were originally extended their second bid to the league, but unfortunately for them, recently added schools were opposed to them and wanted to shift the league eastwards.

---

I'm not sure that even bringing in JMU brings in more money. I'd probably vote to admit them, but I think that some of the western schools would be opposed unless another western school was brought in at that time as well.

---

I think the CLANG you just heard was the door to FBS being firmly shut. For a half decade or so. Coastal was very lucky to get out when it did.

It's not incorrect. Their basketball is more like decent and less like good. Last trip to the NCAA Tournament was 1999 and one conference championship back in 1992. You're saying the SB should bring in a football program that's had 4 winning seasons (and by winning I'm talking 6-5) since 2000, just because they "are a preferred ask of stAte"? Yea buddy! App was not "crying" for a travel partner. We were promised one as a condition for joining the conference. The eastern schools had nothing to do with getting rid of NMSU. That contract was signed long before App or GA Southern showed up. I find it hard to believe you or anyone would be in favor of bringing in a "divisional" school that is 633, 664, 965, 999, 1006 & 1126 miles from the other schools in that division. You must not have taken any simple math courses, not to mention accounting. because that is a recipe for bankruptcy.

I hope a realignment of the SB & CUSA does take place. It might not be a big deal to you, but some of us don't want our students flying all over 2-3 time zones and missing tons of class time. If you think a conference that mean bussing to places Marshall, Charlotte, ODU, WKU, MTSU, GA Southern, GA State & CCU is a bad thing you're nuts. At least we wouldn't have to put up with the constant complaining by clowns (hey it's your avatar) like you.

I don't think anyone ever actually said it, so I'll say it now: I call bullsh!t on App being promised a travel partner.

The reason for that? It's simple: ADDING A TRAVEL PARTNER IS NOT FOR YOU! It's for the rest of the conference. Seriously... What is it with App State folks (not all, but most) that they can't comprehend that? I mean, it is like a mental block with you people, like Georgia Southern and the forward pass (I had to add that one in there).

You do understand that though the contract for their admission was before App & GaSo joined... Both of you voted on the renewal (or in this case, non-renewal)... right? So yeah... you do have something to do with them leaving.

Finally, if the mileage is of such a concern for you, and your budget can't accommodate such an onerous cost (which would most likely be WAY less than 300k/year), then perhaps you should reconsider this whole "FBS" thing. Because that kind of cost is NOMINAL to most schools.
