If you have access to the ESPN app, watch the final couple minutes of regulation (and then OT) of last night's Nevada-New Mexico game. Nevada was down 25 in the second half, 18 with fewer than three minutes remaining, and still down 14 with 1:03. They were down so much they brought in two walk-ons, and one of those walk-ons hit a 3 at 1:03 to get the comeback really going. One of the craziest comebacks I've seen.
From CBSSports.com coverage:
"Here's the story: Nevada came from 25 points down with 11 minutes left in regulation -- and then again from five points down in overtime -- to win at the Pit while Jordan Caroline finished with 45 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and five blocks. It's the most points an opponent has ever scored in the Pit's 50-plus years of existence. And the 25-point comeback is the eighth-largest second-half comeback in NCAA history. Nevada made seven 3-pointers in the final 1:49 of regulation to force overtime. Nevada won despite trailing by 14 points with 64 seconds remaining in regulation.
"The guys fought," Nevada coach Eric Musselman told CBS Sports early Sunday.
And keep an eye on Nevada, by the way. The Wolf Pack are now 14-3 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. They lost their season-opener at nationally ranked Saint Mary's. Their only other two losses -- to Iona on a neutral court and at Fresno State -- have come by a total of three points.
I was wondering why that game was still going on so late last night when I was flipping through the channels. I wish I had stopped to watch it in OT which is where it was when I came across it
