RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
The third of four web.com playoff events is this weekend and Conners has made another cut. He'll go into the weekend tied for 12th with back to back solid rounds.

Conners has earned $24614 in the first two tournaments. In the past, between $32 to $36 has been needed to earn a PGA card. A top 20 finish would pretty much seal the deal for a PGA card.

Conners was a +1 today and slips to a tie for 23rd. The course played pretty tough today, so a +1 wasn't bad, but, again, a Top 20 finish would be great, so hopefully, a few long putts will find the hole for Conners tomorrow.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
Conners was helped by an eagle on 9 and ended the day one under, moving up to (currently) a tie for 14th. There are a lot of players still on the course, but my guess is his payday will be $16K and he'll have over $40K in earnings for the playoffs, which should be enough to earn him a PGA card.

More later as things wrap up and more details are known.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
By the time the golfing was done, Conners had moved up to a Tie for 11th and earned $20500. He has $45K in playoff earnings and is 11th (out of those who haven't already earned their PGA card). He has to finish in the Top 25 to earn his card. I suppose it is mathematically possible for him to not finish in the Top 25, but that would mean that the 16 or so players immediately behind Conners would have to finish in the Top 14 next week and that would be close to getting struck by lightning odds, so we're going to have two Flashes to rout for next year on the PGA tour.

I feel there is a need for a proper emoji to celebrate!

Corey Conners missed the cut at the putt-putt course they are using for the web.com tour championship. He shot 4 under and missed the cut by one stroke.

Even though he missed the cut, I don't think it is possible given the players that are left in the field for Conners to be left out of the Top 25 for the playoffs. If things end where they are at the moment, he will finish 18th. I will update on Sunday, but we are looking at having two Flashes to rout for on the PGA tour next year!

We'll have to wait a day to confirm Conners on the PGA Tour because the final round of the web.com tour event is delayed until Monday because of rain.

And we're off...

The PGA season has started two weeks after the PGA season ended and one week after the web.com season ended.

In the Safeway Open, Corey Conners is 5 under and tied for 23rd and Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut. The fall season is Conners' opportunity to get off to a good start and it obviously worked out well for Hughes, winning a tournament and earning the PGA card for almost three years.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
Looks like Conners is going to come in a tie for 30th in his first PGA event as a full member. This is his 11th PGA event, but only his second cut and highest finish. Most of the events took place a few summers ago right when he graduated and received sponsor exemptions. Now, he's ready and it'll be interesting to see how he does.

I figure he'll pick up about 25 of the approximately 400 Fed Ex Cup points he'll need to keep his card this weekend.

In other news, a quick scan of the golfers signed up for Q school revealed Ryan Yip in First Stage action in the next few weeks. Also, Wad Phaewchimplee will play the second stage of the LPGA Q school the week of Oct. 15th.

Q School: Ryan Yip advances to the second stage and Taylor Pendrith did not advance. I didn't see any other Kent players, but it's hard to sort through, so I don't know if my info is complete.

Wad Phaewchimplee played strong golf and fiinished tied for 18th in Stage II of the LPGA Q school. She qualifies for the final stage and earned some status on the Symatra Tour (LPGA's minor league tour) for next year (not sure how many tournaments that would mean in reality though).

Corey Conners made the cut (barely) at the Sanderson Farms PGA event and then hung around at the bottom and finished T65. It's worth a decent paycheck and a few PGA FedEx points. He's two for two for cuts since earning his Tour card, which says something since he was only 1 for his previous 10 from getting exemptions into tournaments.

Ryan Yip will move onto the final stage of the web.com Q school by finishing T15 in the 2nd stage. The top 20 and ties advance.

Corey Conners is T39 at the Shriner's Hospital Open and should make the cut after today's second round completes. He is in the clubhouse at one under and the cut line will be at 1 over I think.

Conners did make the cut, but didn't play the best golf on the weekend, ending up a T68.

Good to make the cuts and get the experience, but better weekend play will bring in many more Fed Ex Cup points.

PGA Tour stop in Mexico:

Conners was exactly on the cut line again and Hughes missed by two strokes. They are pretty far behind because of weather (no one has finished the third round and a lot of players didn't even start their third round) so I don't know if they can get through 4 by the end of Sunday.

Conners finished T75 after not doing much over the weekend again.

On the plus side, Conners is 4 for 4 in making cuts since earning his PGA card. On the minus side, his best finish was a T30 and the other three were very far down the pack (T65, T68 & T75) which will earn him very few of the Fed Ex points he needs to keep his PGA card.

RSM Classic this week (it's the one that Hughes won a year ago).

* Hughes missed the cut and Conners barely made the cut (again; he was two under and the cut line was one under). During the weekend, Conners continued to play good golf and moved up to a tie of 37th, which will be worth another $10-15K more and 10-15 Fed Ex points more than finishing near the bottom of the field that made the cut. So, good week for Conners as the fall season winds down.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2017 edition
The final stage of the LPGA Q school started today and Wad Phaewchimplee shot a two over 74. She is tied for 74th.

Here's what I understand about the tournament:

* It's five rounds with a cut to 70 (with ties) after the 4th round.
* As I understand it, by completing 72 holes, Wad earns Symmatra Tour status (which is the LPGA's equivalent of the web.com tour), so it's a participation trophy as earning the final stage gets you on the minor league tour!
* Top 20 (and ties) earn LPGA status
* 21-45 (and ties) earn conditional LPGA status (from what I can see, this is almost as good as finishing in the Top 20.
* Everyone else gets Symmatra Tour status with priorities going to those who finish higher. I think almost everyone will get to play plenty of golf though.

Wad Phaewchimplee will not be making the cut at the LPGA Q School. She finished tied for 118th, 7 strokes off the cut line out of 166 participants. Basically, she was done in by a horrible 2nd round shooting an 80. Otherwise, she played decent but not great golf.

What this means as far as I can tell is she will earn status on Symetra Tour (LPGA's web.com equivalent) and his priority status at the beginning of the season will be enough to play any tournament she wants to. She could fall back as the season goes along due to reshuffles if she doesn't play well.

It'll be fun to have a reason to follow another tour.

One last tournament for the 2017 year. Ryan Yip is trying to retain his web.com card at the web.com Q School. He needs to finish in the Top 50 and is currently tied for 32nd after an excellent second round.
