Is there anybody proud of the Western basketball team. Tune in to ESPN3 and watch one of the worst teams ever produced. There is talent on the floor, but the Ohio players are just laughing at it. I've watched many games since they have been on the internet but never as disgusted as this. I just turned it off at halftime.
P.J. Fleck has proven that WMU can be a force in a sport. Why can't WMU let Steve Hawkins fade off into the sunset and bring in some new blood so things at least look different. WMU basketball is doing the same thing they have done for years....back off the 3 point shooters and watch teams score at will. Very poor coaching.
Some will give me the line "hes won the Mac West" so what. What good is winning the poorest division in a weak conference. This is not good basketball and certainly not D-1 basketball. Time for a real change. Bring in some new young coach with some different ideas and some enthusiasm. This is not something anyone in Kalamazoo can be proud of.

I'm watching this unbelievable mess. Hawkins has proven me right. He has no ideal how to coach this team. Unbelievable!!!

I totally agree, this is not fair for the fans or the university. We have too much talent to look like this. Embarrising

30pt loss in the lead off to the MAC season... not good. Very not good.

Our talent is extremely green. This is gonna be up and down and probably more down the whole way.

We could be hugely improved next year but I am starting to wonder if Hawkins will be around for it.

He has no senior leadership, Haymond is not a rah-rah rally guy. Hawkins has several 18-19 year olds playing against 22 year old vets. Tava transfer is really showing the leadership loss. Unless you are Kentucky eight freshman roster isn't going very far at D1 level. It's painful to watch but getting rid of Hawkins at this point doesn't make the roster change. He has his best recruiting class in years they just don't have experience at this level.

We will be good next year. Relax and enjoy the journey. Despite losses, seasons like this can be just as much fun for hoop junkies. Watching teams mature is always inspiring. Hawkins has never 'lost' a team, and this crew will not be his first.

I don't think Hawk's job security should be in question. If they aren't contenders next year, I could see that conversation opening up. But right now they are very young, and he has been solid long enough to afford him a year like this. He won the MAC in '14 after all. I definitely see the temptation especially in light of the Fleck success, but I think the downside risk is pretty huge too. Sometimes you get a Bobby Hurley, and sometimes it takes 3 new hires and 7-8 seasons before you find a coach who is truly MAC level.
