If/when this happens UNC, NC State, UVA, VT are split between the Big 10 and SEC as well. As far as the rest, who knows where they land. Probably some merger of ACC, Big 12.

I think Duke, Miami, and Pitt get a good home too. Probably Louisville and Syracuse and GT too. Wake, BC, SMU and the west schools should worry.

If there is one thing I have learned about any new thing in college athletics it is to not fall in love with it. Anything can go away in the blink of an eye in the new landscape. It is ever-changing, exciting, exasperating, and sad.

Part of the calculus might be betting on a breakaway from the NCAA by the Big 10 and SEC. Setting this up before they breakaway means that the G5 has the means to set up the rules so that they have the leverage when the Big 12 ACC leftovers try to figure out what to do next

Something like this is bound to happen at some point. G5 will be the new and improved FCS. And frankly, it really already is, minus the playoff. It makes no sense that the vast majority of G5 programs are playing for literally nothing. It really hurts their product. You can try all you want to sell the excitement of securing a 6-6 season and a bid to the Bahamas Bowl, but it pales in comparison to actually playing for a shot at competing for a championship.

Not sure SEC or B1G add that many more schools. So far those two don’t have many schools in the same state as the other. So if say the B1G takes UNC & UVA, I don’t see The SEC taking NC State and VT to directly compete. SEC takes Clemson & FSU. I think that is it. Most importantly, why dilute the money by adding any more.

I think of it as playing for a conference championship. Everything else is a bonus. I really want to see an ODU SB football Championship in the next decade.

That has been an FCS talking point for years.
However, their playoff games and even their championship are usually sparsely attended and produce minimal television ratings. With JMU gone that is even more so.

A G5 playoff and championship should be proportionally better in both attendance and ratings, but will it be enough to actually provide a positive ROI.

Time will tell.

I'd think a playoff gives us the chance to play different schools from all over the country. I would really like that

And even more so if it includes any leftovers from the ACC, B12 and PAC. There are a lot of alumni and football fans spread amongst all those schools. Problem is a TV network would need to bid around $150-200 million a year to make it worth it. A fraction of what ESPN paid the P2(5), but still over a billion dollars for 6 years. Is it worth it for what will be perceived as a D2 championship?
