USM destroyed Arkansas State today 13-6 at Pete Taylor Park for their 2nd win of the 3 game series. Marc Maddox lead the squad with 4 hits today, including 2 homers and a double. He finished the day with 3 RBI's. Golden Eagle relief pitcher Tyler Perrett (3-0) came on in relief of starter Cole Basinger in the fourth inning and earned his third win of the season, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking one and striking out two. Basinger pitched 3.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and walked two. John Nicholas pitched the ninth inning, giving up three hits. Arkansas State starter Taylor Fowler (2-2) dropped his second decision of the season, pitching four innings, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits, walked two and struck out one. Southern Miss (11-3) scored 13 runs on 22 hits and recorded no errors, while Arkansas State (13-5) scored six runs on 14 hits and committed two errors. The 3rd and final game of the Arkansas State-USM series is under way and USM has jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. Willcutt singled to left center to start off the inning. Lowery doubled down the left field line and Willcutt advanced to third. Griffin singled up the middle and both Lowery and Willcutt scored. Fowler flied out to center field. Blount reached on a fielder's choice and Griffin was thrown out at second second base. Finally, Matesich struck out to end the threat. Let's break out the broom and sweep the Indians!!!!! Amen!!!!!!! USM plays LA-Monoroe today @ Louisianna at 6:00 p.m. If we can beat them and possibly win 2 out of 3 games against TCU, I'd say we have a pretty good chance at being ranked. Here's to hopefully being ranked next week!!!!!!!
