Barrere was a damn legend. He played with everyone in the southern rock genre at some point. He was close to Gregg Allman.

I loved Little Feat in college. Partied a lot to them.

'Survivor' contestant Rudy Boesch, retired Navy SEAL, dead at 91

Quote:In 2000, the Bronze Star recipient finished third on the first season of "Survivor." Boesch, who was 72 at the time, remains the oldest contestant in the series' history.

I remember watching the very first Survivor, the one with the Rat and the Snake. It was cool because it was actual real people, and not too much scripting. After the second one, where the guy went ape-$#!t over the Pontiac Aztek (bleeech) because he was told to by the producers, I lost interest in "reality" television that is really "wanna be stars with no talent who wouldn't make it otherwise" competing for prizes, likes and fans.

Exclamation RE: Grim Reaper Should Hang Himself
Gee, David, this is a sports board, so here's one you missed, wide left:

Fred Cox, former Vikings kicker, inventor of NERF football, dies at age 80

Quote:MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Minnesota Vikings kicker Fred Cox, one of the last of the straight-on placekickers and a standout on several conference championship teams, has died. He was 80.

Cox, who also co-created the Nerf football, scored a Minnesota-record 1,365 points in his 15 seasons, often kicking in nasty conditions because the Vikings played outdoors during his career from 1963-77. When he retired, he was second in NFL history in scoring behind George Blanda — who also played quarterback — and had made 282 field goals.

Cox was one of 11 Vikings to play in all four of the team’s Super Bowls, all defeats. He kicked in 18 postseason games.

The original Start Trek TV Series was the best; tolerable and reasonable left of center entertainment and perspective with common values to all points of view. The rest was far-leftist drivel.

Quote:StarTrek.com is deeply saddened to report the passing of Dorothy Catherine “D.C.” Fontana, the legendary writer who brought many of Star Trek’s greatest episodes to life. Fontana passed away peacefully at age 80 on the evening of December 2nd, following a short illness.

As a writer, Fontana is credited with many episodes focusing on Vulcan culture and helped blaze a trail for female writers in sci-fi television. She is the mind behind The Original Series and The Animated Series episodes like “Yesteryear” and “Journey to Babel,” which introduced Spock’s father Sarek and mother Amanda.

She wrote many Star Trek books including adapting The Wrath of Khan and Search For Spock into novels. You can't believe how much script was edited out of the movie The Wrath of Khan. When Spock took Lt. Savek aside into a room to talk to her privately? What the movie did not told was that Savek is Spock's daughter when he had an affair with a Romulan from the original series.

Sad. I remember him on Star Trek. He typically played some sort of thug. He was a very busy actor back in the day.

Brilliant guy. Nerf is wonderful. Mr. Cox did not take it far enough though. Imagine a world where bullets are made out of nerf. Imagine if cars were made out of nerf. You get run over by a nerf car...you just bounce back up.

Even planes. How safe would a nerf plane be? Imagine it!

Oh wait... rain. 05-nono

Oh man, this one hits me hard. Big Bird (aka Carroll Spinney, the man behind the bird for almost 50 years) dies at age 85. He left the show a few years ago and someone else is now playing Big Bird, but like Jim Henson, he really can't be replaced. He was also the voice of Oscar the Grouch.
