MyBB RE: Grim Reaper Should Hang Himself
Wes Unseld (1946–2020), legendary Hall of Fame center for the Washington Bullets who was one of only two players in NBA history to win rookie of the year and MVP in the same season.

Died: Tuesday, June 2, 2020
Details of Death: Died at the age of 74 from pneumonia.

Unseld was drafted out of Louisville by the NBA’s Bullets in 1968 and played center for the team in Baltimore and Washington D.C. until his retirement in 1981. He led the Bullets to their only NBA championship in 1978 over the Seattle Supersonics and was named the finals MVP. Unseld was shorter than most centers at 6-feet-7-inches but was a hard-working rebounder, averaging over 14 a game, and has the most rebounds in NBA history for a player under 6-foot-8. He was a five-time All-Star and a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. After playing, he coached the Bullets from 1987 until 1994.

“I know that night in and night out the guy I play against will have more physical ability. But I feel like if I go out against a guy and play him 40 or 48 minutes, toe to toe, head to head, he is going to get tired or beat up or bored for two or three minutes. That will be enough to make sure he doesn’t win the game for his team.” --Wes Unseld

I don't believe Bonnie was still with her sisters when they had their 80's hits that most people are familiar with. She had left in 1977 for a solo career scoring several moderate solo hits after leaving the Pointers in 1977, including a disco cover of The Elgins' "Heaven Must Have Sent You" which became a U.S. top 20 pop hit on September 1, 1979.

One of my favorite baseball trivia questions:

I played for the Houston Buffs, Houston Colt .45s, and Houston Astros.
I once hit .400 in the minor leagues.
I have officiated a Rose Bowl and and AFC Championship game (but never a Super Bowl).
My sisters are better known than I am.

Who am I?

The Pointer brother, Aaron.

Jim Jarvis
November 4, 1921 - June 6, 2020 | Age 98
Oldest remaining survivor of WWII USS Indianapolis disaster

Jim Jarvis was a U.S. Navy veteran who was the oldest remaining survivor of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

Quote:Jarvis’ service

Jarvis was a U.S. Navy veteran who was serving aboard the USS Indianapolis when it was struck by two Japanese torpedoes on July 30, 1945. Jarvis had time to grab a life jacket before falling into the water, where he and hundreds of others remained for four days and five nights. Jarvis was one of the lucky ones who wasn’t killed by a shark in history’s worst shark attack, and he later told interviewers about how he maintained the presence of mind not to drink seawater, as others around him were doing in desperation. Jarvis was one of 316 who were saved from an original crew of 1195 crewmen. In later years, Jarvis displayed a sense of humor about his ordeal by regularly wearing a “USS Indianapolis Swim Team” t-shirt.

Determined to survive

“I never gave up. I figured, well, somebody will find us. They finally did.” —Jim Jarvis in a 2018 interview with author Sara Vladic

'Thomas the Tank Engine' Narrator Michael Angelis Dead at 76

Michael Angelis, the Liverpool-born actor who replaced Ringo Starr as the narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine, died suddenly on Saturday, his agent told the BBC News. He was 76. Angelis was a classically-trained actor best-known internationally for narrating Thomas and Friends from 1991 until 2012 and was featured on the U.K. version. The children's series launched in the U.K. in 1984 with the former Beatle Starr narrating until 1990. Angelis replaced Starr in 1991 and kept the role for more than two decades. Other narrators for the beloved series, which is still in production, include George Carlin, Alec Baldwin, Pierce Brosnan and Michael Brandon. The U.S. version is now narrated by Joseph May, while John Hasler narrates the U.K. version.

Question RE: Grim Reaper Should Hang Himself
Always a fan favorite, so sad to hear of this. He was battling prostate cancer. Claudell will be missed.

Ex-Brave, Yankee,Ranger and A's Claudell Washington dies at age 65

Quote:Washington’s career began with the Oakland Athletics in 1974, when he played in 73 games. His debut came eight weeks before his 20th birthday. That season he played on the third of Oakland’s three consecutive World Series champions. Washington hit .571 against the NL champion Dodgers that October.

He signed with the Braves as a free agent after the 1980 season and was a key contributor to the 1982 National League West champions. The Braves traded Washington to the Yankees in June 1986, receiving Ken Griffey Sr. in return.

The Los Angeles native also had a place in pop culture history as it was his foul ball that Ferris Bueller ended up “catching” in the 1986 movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” as the movie used game footage from a 1985 game between Washington’s Braves and the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

"He (Claudell Washington) plays the outfield like he's trying to catch grenades." - New York Yankees Outfielder / Hall of Fame Outfielder Reggie Jackson (AP Wire, 1977)

Jim Kiick August 9, 1946 – June 20, 2020 was an American professional football player who was a running back. He played college football at Wyoming from 1965 through 1967, and was the Cowboys' leading rusher each of those years. He totalled 1,714 yards and ten touchdowns on 431 carries, and 561 yards and five touchdowns on 52 pass receptions. He was the first player ever to earn first-team All-WAC honors three times. He played for the Miami Dolphins in the American Football League (AFL) from 1968 to 1969 and in the National Football League (NFL) from 1970 through 1977, except for 1975 when he played in the World Football League. His father, George, a native of Hanover, Pennsylvania, played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1940 and 1945.

He was a member of the undefeated 1972 team, and was an integral part of the ball-control running game which characterized the Dolphins under head coach Don Shula in the early 1970s. Kiick played in three Super Bowls and is the Dolphins' fourth all-time leading rusher. He and fullback Larry Csonka, known as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," in 1973 co-wrote a book, Always on the Run. They shocked the sports world in 1974 when they signed with the newly formed World Football League.

Hall of Fame basketball coach and former NBA player Jerry Sloan passed away on May 22 at the age of 78. Sloan had been dealing with diagnoses of both Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia, something he had announced back in 2016.

From 1966 to 1976, Sloan played for the Chicago Bulls, and they retired his Jersey number (4) after he left. From there, he went on to a coaching career, during which he lead the Utah Jazz team through 23 seasons. He also became the NBA's No. 4 on the all-time winningest coaches list with 1,221 victories.
