Boston College comes into the tournament 19-9 overall, and finished third in Big East with a 10-6 record. The Golden Eagles lost to Villanova, 41-37, in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament. BC finished the season with an RPI ranking of 29 and SOS ranking of 22.

The winner of the Houston-BC match-up will play the winner between second-seeded Duke and 15th-seeded Canisus in the second round. Other match-ups in the Chattanooga Region include No. 6 Georgia facing No. 11 Rice and No. 3 Texas tipping off against No. 14 Oral Roberts.

Houston ends season 21-9

March 20, 2005
The University of Houston women's basketball team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament after suffering a 65-43 loss to seventh-seeded Boston College. The Eagles scored 16 unanswered points over a seven-minute span in the first half to open up a 20-point lead and never looked back.

Clare Droesch led the Eagles' first half attack with 15 points including three three-pointers. Houston hung with BC for the first two minutes trailing, 6-4, after a Sancho Lyttle jumper.

Boston College went on an 8-0 run over the next six minutes and led 14-4 after two free throws by Brooke Queenan. The Lady Cougars closed to within four at 16-12 following a Kiki Harris jumper, but the Eagles closed the half by outscoring Houston 18-5 to go into the locker room with a 34-17 advantage.
Joann Overstreet knocks the ball away from Boston College's Sarah Marshall in the first half.

Houston closed to within 15 seven and a half minutes into the second half following a Joann Overstreet drive and lay-up, however, the Lady Cougars were not able to get any closer. The Lady Cougars' leading scorer and rebounder, Lyttle, fouled out with 8:25 remaining in the game with 12 points, a season-low three rebounds and five steals.

Lyttle, however, ends the season as one of the nation's leading rebounder with 12.1 rebounds per game. Harris added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Daphne Andre chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

This was Houston's second consecutive trip to the Big Dance after being eliminated by UC- Santa Barbara last year in the second round. Last season saw Houston gained their first win in the NCAAs with a 62-47 victory over UW-Green Bay in the first round.

I have to admit that I did not follow the ladies as well as I wanted to this season. I will do better next season.

Let's come back and kick some booty next season ladies.!!!!
