RE: future of KBS
You can't add new structures/seating right now. When you remove the track, everything will be too far away. Relocate the track first, then you can work on designing something for the North end zone and East-West.

We might see an announcement to our football facilities soon. And this is in addition to the 24million dollar project we just broke ground on.

According to someone I asked on the MMB, who says he saw more pictures than the ones shown, the track is gone. Hope he's right.

Yeah, FWIW, as AppVA said, a few people on the MMB who usually don't end up being wrong have said the track would be removed. I agree that should be the first thing we do.

REMOVED is a big word. Not to blow anyone's cover but I know that the field/track won't be dug down, but instead be covered. A few rows (maybe 3) will be added below the current wall at each section. Beyond that the track will disappear. We'll have an extended team section and mayhaps a shrubbery or so (to keep anyone from storming the field).

However, the field isn't getting lowered. The seating will be miniscule-ly extended and the team section will be extended while the track will just be covered in green, maybe turf, maybe UGA style bushes.

I'm not opposed to getting it done that way. As long as you can't tell there is/was a track there then go ahead. The only problem I would imagine would be kinda like what you have over in Chapel Hill at Kenan. If you get seats within the first 5 or so rows it's pretty hard to see over the players and the hedges.

From what I understand is that it isn't going to be discussed but just be done. The cost is so irrelevant that it will just be done. So it won't even be shown as an option on any of the KBS upgrades moving foward.

That makes sense to me. And you would be surprised how many seats can be added at three rows, 70+ yards per side and what, 35+ yards on each end? If that is actually done plus the new endzone facility, you would be looking at 28-30k permanent seats with SRO in the opposite endzone.

Would hate to have seats in the first three rows. It would seem that it would be difficult viewing from there. The most pertinent piece of this maneuver would the relocation of the track. When will that be resolved?

The home of the old mountain jug is actually in Boone. I would be willing to say it's its permanent home.

IMO the best & most cost effective option is to move the field over towards the west stands, connect a new section to the walk way of the upper stands on the east side and basically cover the existing lower sections. If you use the same angle of the top sections that would put the first row about 3/4ths of the way out on the track. Then wrap that lower section around tboth endzones and cover the remaing track with turf. Build the new north endzone facility behind those seats.

"In the mid-1980s, the series was mentioned as "the best football rivalry you've never heard of" by Sports Illustrated; however since 1985, the series has gotten lopsided with Western Carolina winning only 2 of the last 28 meetings."

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to give those guys a football game every couple of years to fill out our home schedule.

They need the money they get from their annual SEC beat downs to keep the program afloat. They won't come to Boone for another App beat down for 150k.

No need to rekindle that game. We've moved on to beating Georgia Southern every year instead.

I hope they don't do some half-ass job where they cover the track with indoor-outdoor carpet or something. I'll get up there myself with my jackhammer if I have to.

Bobcat Stadium pre-track and post-track may give you some idea of what to expect.

When we removed our track we were unable to dig down. The San Marcos Springs are only about a mile from the stadium and the water table is too high to dig any further down.

Here's the stadium prior to removing track:

Here is afterwards:

Our endzone seating is right on top of the field, but we have a ton of space between the first row of seats along the sideline and the field.

The before and after for your stadium is truly remarkable.

The endzone extending a little farther than the seating irks me a bit, but overall it's a beautiful facility.
