I mean, it's a check.

That's what I tell the Repo man all the time!

As long as HCMH doesn't cash it until his decade is done, we're good to go. Maybe I should write it for 50 million now that I think about it.

I think we had this discussion earlier in this thread or in another thread last week. I'm sure BDK will give us the exact numbers, but there are not many in the last 30 years. One school that did do it and had one of their more successful coaches as a result was NC State when they hired Dick Sheridan from Furman. In fact, in the last 30 years, he is the only coach that has not ended his tenure with the Wolfpack by being fired.

Mike London--Richmond to UVA
Jim Tressell--Youngstown State to Ohio State
Jim Harbaugh--San Diego to Stanford

...just off the top of my head

Thanks!

London was a P5 coordinator, so his situation is apples and oranges compared to Houston. Harbaugh was an ex-NFL guy and part of a football/coaching family, so that is a different resume too. Houston can either go the multi-champ route or through the G5. Ideally he could do both in Harrisonburg eventually.

I counted 15 or 16 schools that have geographical fit for Houston.Of those, almost half have a coach that was hired prior to this season. I think he could be a fit at a service academy. All of those guys are doing a nice job.

Paul Johnson and Dave Clawson doing nice jobs at Tech and Wake.

Biggest risk job is Vanderbilt, IMO. I dont think Derek Mason has that much rope left. Houston would be a VERY appealing hire for Vandy given his makeup.

Mason beat Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee this year. And they went to a bowl. He has at least two years there. Maybe Duke when Cutcliffe retires in 8 years.

I can easily see him sliding into Cutcliffe's job in a few years. Cutcliffe knows about JMU now that we have played them and having DD there for a couple season's also helped keep us in his eye. Duke will definitely seek DC's opinion when the time is near.

I can also see MH watching what transpires at ECU over the next few seasons. Should there coach not get the job done, MH would seemingly be a perfect candidate.

I don't see AF being right for him, definitely Navy and maybe Army. But right now his roots are in the south.

After his multiple NCs, Craig Bohl went to Wyoming, that might be a better frame of reference.

ANOTHER HC THREAD AT THE TOP, YAY! Whatever, this is just as good of a blast from the past as the others.

Virginia Tech snatched up Justin Fuente after just two winning seasons, his last two of just four at Memphis. When big programs need coaches, they grab guys like Mike Houston fast.

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Part of his response suggested that the opportunities came to him, and that he wasn't actively seeking out an upgrade. Unlike another recent coach, who was putting his name out there before the ink on his contract dried.

Seems to have happened again.
