RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
This is nuts. What does this do to our practices? Haven't players gone home?

Hey, maybe WMU will pull out of the Cotton Bowl so we could go!

I doubt Minnesota boycott's but if they did, I believe our players are gone for break. What are the chances they all return with such short notice.

And who pays to get the team back together again. I believe NCAA rules would prohibit NIU from paying airfares to get out of state players back to Dekalb.

I don't see the players being excited about coming back. And that attitude would turn this into another Poinsettia Bowl game. (Oh, how we play SO well in San Diego!) Can we beat our 33 yards of total offense last year?

What a logistical nightmare. One interesting thought, if it were to happen, we may have all 4 QB's available, Hare, Maddie, Santa and Graham.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
STF will keep making bad decisions and take it for little profit that will be left after all the costs to go are paid. This is a terrible decision. Is the money that will be left that good to go there to be embarrassed for yet another bowl? They will easily drop 70 on us. STF already hurt the program by retaining Carey and not doing anything with the Orange Bowl momentum. This has to get people fired if we go and get shamed again.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
Why would the players want to go spend a week in San Diego when the weather is so great here?!??

UM will get this settled one way or another.

NCAA won't want the embarrassment.

Remote chance they back out, there are so many ramifications, side stories. In the end, I think if offered, goes to players and they vote it down. It's not their game, their battle. But I don't think it comes to that.

Just like last year and the previous trips to SD, eh?

If Minnesota really boycotts and NIU goes, the NCAA should front the bill of travel for players to come back to campus and the trip to San Diego. Either way, this will never happen again so you have to take the opportunity if it's there.

Agree.

Last thing Minnesota wants is more attention drawn to the incident that brought on these suspensions.

Some sort of compromise will be agreed to and Minny will be bowling.

About the best (only) reason I can think up to show up..... FRESH fish tacos!

And maybe while a repeat for some, a 1st for others, the chance to kiss the Dolphins @ Sea World.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
These Minn. players sound like they are legit boycotting this game.
This could really be a thing. It's a no-lose situation (even though they will get creamed 70-7), since you can always blame lack of preparation (which would have happened under RC even if NIU had the full three weeks to prepare) and they may get some sympathy from the national media.
Go Huskies

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
Apparently a player's parents said their son won't return to Minnesota unless the university president and AD step down. No clue if they stick to their word on that but people are obviously beyond mad. I would think Minnesota avoids this disaster somehow but who knows...the NCAA and bowl committee need to make a decision quickly if there is any chance of a replacement team getting lined up. Obviously that benefits NIU assuming they can put a team together and get them to San Diego in time.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
Some posts stated that a decision was needed within 48 hours and that was yesterday...I imagine that we will know by the end of this weekend...either tomorrow or Sunday.

I've been reading on this but I'm getting confused. These 10 were suspended for sexual assault accusations. Yet the team is boycotting that suspension. I mean is the team really that stupid to stand by people like that? Yea it's an accusation but to even be accused of something like that really says a lot about you. Just like Andy Rifkin. That guy is a real POS.

yeah but there's that thorny thing called consent, which can be rescinded at any point. but sometimes it turns into regret, esp as more people know about it. And the best way to level out the regret is to turn it into an accusation.

i'm not saying thats the case here, i'm saying its not as easy as jumping to a black and white conclusion.

These sexual assault accusations are a very sensitive subject (rightfully so), it is much more than just a football game.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
Wouldn't it be something if NIU went from not bowling at all to lucking into the Holiday Bowl, which on most years would be the best bowl game for any MAC team based on opponent, location, and payout? Only WMU making the NY6 (which benefits everybody) prevents that from being true this year
