Don't worry, the AAC fanboys can tell you about how bowl losses don't matter.
The reality is that outside of these fan boards, the only game that will really affect our national perception will be WMU in the Cotton. Winning our G5 games or Miami beating a SEC team would be great, but Western is the big kahuna. And if they win, at least it gives more credence to the idea that WMU getting the access bowl and pushing everybody up a tie-in to a better team than they'd face under normal circumstances.
Love our season and I'm excited to go to the Cotton Bowl.
At the same time, haven't played a team that's close to a Top 10 B1G team. It'll take some key UW mistakes and error-free football on our part.
It's been a fun run regardless of outcome. But I'll be pleasantly surprised if we won.

Spot on. The AAC got of to an 0-4 start last year as well, but all anyone in the media remembers is the Peach Bowl.
The truth is the bowl system is becoming more and more irrelevant due to the introduction of the playoff system. Even the players are beginning to treat the games as little more than exhibitions. I think we're entering a great transition period for college football.
As I posted on another board there are about 10,800 scholarship FB players in the FBS that won't make it to the NFL. They like the Bowl trips and gifts. The Networks, advertisers, playoff contenders are the one's pushing non relevant Bowls narrative, because it helps line their pockets.
If you want to talk non relevant, regular season NBA games with stars taking the game off or giving a half hearted effort for a quarter or two is the worst.
I can see a some of the 5-7/6-6 teams not motivated, due to underperforming against expectations.
Other than that... yeah, I don't see why a typical college player wouldn't want to attend a bowl game. A nationally-televised game in a warm weather location, and you get treated like royalty while you're there (itinerary of touristy activities, bowl swag, etc.). It's far more of an experience than the CBA or CIT or NIT in hoops.
And never understood the "exhibition" angle. The win or loss is still counted in your overall record with equal weight of all the others.
