RE: Why did the NFL bring back the Browns?
Same reason they added a team like the Jags in a bad market. $$$$$

RE: Why did the NFL bring back the Browns?
It was rhetorical. They're 0-13. They've had one playoff appearance since coming back and just 2 winning seasons.
They were little before coming back just like they are now.

They were bad before..... haven't been a threat since Bernie Kosar. Once they left Cleveland and became the Ravens that set of circumstances changed. Their whole organization is trash.

Not sure about the dig at Jacksonville. First, I can't remember the other cities looking for teams when Jacksonville and Charlotte got picked but when you look at it.... Jacksonville and Carolina got the conference finals in their second years of existence. Then, the Jags with Coughlin and Brunell did a lot of work for a good amount of years with the AFC Central and playoff births while Carolina spent most of its early years struggling. After those two left Jacksonville.... they had a brief resurgence with DelRio and Garard but then they broke that up.... and haven't gotten back to being good in a long while. Otherwise Carolina has been to the Super Bowl twice, and has been strong of late.
There are also a lot of bad teams in the NFL too.... so to stick it to Jacksonville calls into question a lot of other floundering teams.

Baltimore, St. Louis, and Memphis.
The Redskins owner lobbied against Baltimore. St. Louis had prospective ownership groups that were threatening to sue each other. Memphis was in the same boat as Jacksonville in that they had a smallish market and no new stadium in the plan, only a refurb of a very old stadium.
Kind of a fiasco in that it led to three franchise moves to fill the vacuum -- Browns to Baltimore, Rams to St. Louis, Oilers to Nashville -- which then led the league to give Cleveland another franchise to replace the Browns and then to give Houston a franchise to replace the Oilers. The NFL wasn't prepared for that because they didn't have the established brakes on franchise relocation that they have now and used in the recent scramble for Los Angeles.
The current Jacksonville owner doesn't seem too thrilled with being there; he volunteered to give up a home game every year to play in London and is positioning himself to be first in line to move to England once the owners get around to it.

IMO, St. Louis can't do this... they had and lost the Cardinals AND the Rams.
Not sure how good Memphis could have been.
Baltimore had the Colts though.... but that move was kind of ..ehh.... But then went for the Stallions((?, CFL)) then actually got the Ravens...and have made them a solid team in the league along with two Super Bowls as a franchise.

Every time the University of Memphis football does well, their attendance skyrockets. An NFL team would have been a hit, especially if they opened with a bang like the Titans did.

RE: Why did the NFL bring back the Browns?
The Jaguars were supposed to be the Saint Louis Stallions. There were two competing ownership groups. The NFL was ready to award the franchise to a group led by James Orthwein, an Anheuser Busch heir. However, the competing group led by Jerry Clinton, a major Anheuser Busch distributor, held the lease to the TWA dome. When they could not resolve their differences, the NFL awarded the franchise to Jacksonville. The Stallions colors were to be purple and gold. A lot of merchandise was produced and a few items were sold. When the team went to Jacksonville, the merchandise was dumped in Africa. I saw Stallions hats and T-shirts being worn in Kinshasa, Zaire.
In 1992, Jerry Orthwein acquired the New England Patriots from Victor Kiam to resolve a debt between the two men. Orthwein intended to move the team it Saint Louis as the Stallions. The proposed colors were blue and silver. Robert Kraft, owner of the Gillette stadium, refused to let Orthwein out of the lease, and then purchased the team in a hostile takeover. One thing Orthwein did that was positive for the Patriots was hiring Bill Parcells.
The current own of the Jaguars tried to buy the Rams from Georgia Frontierre, but Stan Kronke had the right of first refusal. If Kahn had bought the Rams, they would still be in Saint Louis.
The reason the Rams moved to Saint Louis is because they couldn't draw flies in Anaheim, and Georgia's hometown had a shiny new football stadium instead of the crappy baseball stadium in Anahiem.

The Raiders Chargers Oakland San Diego Las Vegas charade with the NFL needs to freakin' end.
I doubt the Jags ever actually move... especially to England. The NFL gave up on WLAF and NFLE.... these exhibition games don't mean they are going to place a NFL team there. Not sure about exploring Canadian and or Mexican cities for team though... granted the CFL could make for some issues in going for Canadian markets.

The atmosphere in London for #Rams #Giants was really impressive. #NFL really likes what's happening there. 1/2

Not going to happen. The NFL will experience the same thing the NBA did with Vancouver. The players just aren't going o want to live over there and the travel will be too onerous to manage.

Teams in England might struggle to get good free agents and might have to overpay to get some, that's true. The NFLPA might oppose basing teams overseas if the players don't want to play over there at all.
The NFL reportedly has a plan for travel. The idea is that a London team would have a stateside training base on the US east coast near a major airport (eg northern Virginia near Dulles) and play at least two road games on every trip to the USA and at least two consecutive home games when in London.
And I suppose if it's an expansion team you place them in a division with four eastern time zone teams (AFC East or North) to further minimize travel b/c they'd then have 4 guaranteed road games in the east each year.

RE: Why did the NFL bring back the Browns?
Everyone has to overpay to get talent with rare exception. NFL jobs are tough to come by and the demand is high, so anyone upset over the travel demands and homesickness that would come with playing in London would just have to suck it up and deal with it. If not, the CFL and various arena leagues will gladly take them.
