John Glenn dead at 95
I posted this on our local board, but since I follow here often I felt it appropriate.

At age 6 I remember watching a small black & white TV and seeing a rocket being launched with an American man inside to circle the earth. Well done John Glenn, and God speed.

Sad news, but what a life.
If only we could all accomplish 10% of what he did.

I was 6 also (late birthday)
Those were some special days for America.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Rest In Peace Mr Glenn.

One of my favorite shows with Glenn making a guest appearance. Gotta watch it all but it's good.

I know the space race had some sinister (for lack of a better word) undertones that weren't as obvious by the time I started paying attention to NASA in the '80s, but I wish space exploration still had the power to rally all Americans like it seems like it used to. Rest in peace, Colonel Glenn.

This must have been why I had that weird dream last night that Glenn Beck had died. The mind is a funny thing.

We don't have to beat the Commies to the United States of Space anymore.
