RE: 2018 Official Recruiting Thread
This happens with every recruiting class on this board. People immediately think that anyone who commits to NIU is looking for something else. Some players are just beyond blessed to be playing Division 1, FBS football. Do you people have any idea how effing hard that is?

RE: 2018 Official Recruiting Thread
CSN article:

Tinley Park (IL) Andrew junior defensive end/tight end recruit Mike Dehaan (6-foot-6, 230 pounds) became the second known in-state recruit to give Northern Illinois University and head coach Rod Carey his verbal commitment.

Dehaan via text discussed why he decided to pledge to NIU:

"I felt very comfortable at NIU. NIU is close to home, they have a great coaching staff and they play very good football. NIU is also usually at the top of the MAC year in and year out."

Dehaan, who recently added his first offer from NIU, made an unofficial visit to the DeKalb based campus a few weeks go and came away impressed with the Huskies.

"Saturday was my first visit to NIU and my Dad also went along," he said. "I had a great visit. I really liked the campus and the coaches at NIU are great guys. The coaches really stood out to my at NIU. I had a great talk with my recruiting coach Mike Uremovich and all of the coaches at NIU just made me feel welcomed. NIU offered me as a more of a tight end for them but they also said they like me as a defensive end. It seems like most schools are looking at me for now as a defensive end recruit."

Dehaan was drawing recruiting interest from Northwestern, Miami of Ohio, Illinois State, Purdue, Princeton, Dartmouth and also Minnesota so far this winter.

From Edgy Tim

"LB Alexander adds his first offer

EDGY TIM | Publisher

Hoffman Estates (Il) junior outside linebacker recruit Jaylan Alexander (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) made a Junior Day visit to Northern Illinois University on Saturday and added his first offer from the Huskies. Alexander recaps his latest visit and offer from NIU and much more here.

"I went to NIU on Saturday and I had a really good visit," Alexander said. "I was hoping they would offer me on Saturday and they did. It's exciting to add my first offer."

Alexander, who played linebacker and receiver for the Hawks in 2016 filled us in on his impressions from DeKalb.

"I've been to NIU a few times before and I went to a game last season so I was already pretty familiar with NIU. The NIU coaches had been in touch and really seemed excited about me and wanted to make sure I came out to visit. I like what NIU has to offer. They have a nice school and they also have been a winning program over the years. NIU offered me as a linebacker but they also like me as an athlete. They feel I can be a pretty versatile player for them."

Alexander also checked out Illinois State for a Sunday Junior Day.

"I went to Illinois State today (Sunday) for a Junior Day and it went well. ISU has a nice school and program. They also put a big focus on academics and how they support the athletes on the field and in the class room. I didn't have a lot of interaction with the coaches at the Junior Day but they seem interested."

Alexander has also drawn interest from a handful of schools.

"Besides NIU and Illinois State I've also been in touch with the coaches from Central Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Wyoming and South Dakota. I don't have any visits set up just yet but I'm hoping to get out to see more schools in person this spring."

OLB Taylor recaps NIU visit
EDGY TIM | Publisher
Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel junior OLB/DE recruit Terrance Taylor (6-foot-4, 203 pounds) made an unofficial visit to Northern Illinois last Friday. Taylor recaps his first ever visit to the Home of the Huskies and more in this recruiting update.

"I went to NIU on Friday," Taylor said. "NIU offered me a few weeks ago and I've never seen the school up close. I was at Huskies Stadium when we played in the state title game a few years ago but this was my first real recruit visit to NIU."

Taylor recapped his first impressions from his Friday NIU visit.

"I had a great visit to NIU. NIU has really nice facilities and I was really impressed with the team and the coaches at NIU. I was able to watch a spring practice and I was impressed at how high energy it was at the practice. Everyone around the football program is just really hyped and excited about playing. I also had a chance to talk to some of the NIU coaches and overall it was just a really good visit. NIU definitely made a good impression."

Taylor has a few more visits in mind this spring.

"I'm planning to head out to visit Western Illinois soon. I also have been in touch with Toledo and also Minnesota and I want to visit those schools. I want to see as many schools in person as I can this spring."

Taylor has also remained in touch with several schools this winter.

"I've been in touch with Iowa, Penn State, Illinois, Arkansas, Louisville and Iowa State. All of those coaches have said that they will be in school once the spring evaluation period begins. They all want to come and watch some of our morning workouts."

Taylor has also backed off his earlier thoughts in regards to making an early verbal commitment.

"I had a good talk with Coach Frank (Lenti) about the recruiting process and I'm looking at taking my time for now and I'm not in any rush to decide anything."

Terrance Taylor has scholarship offers from Central Michigan, Toledo, NIU, Eastern Michigan and Western Illinois.

Edgytim article about Brandon Mayes "little" brother.

DT Mayes a name to watch
EDGY TIM | Publisher
Aurora (IL) Christian junior defensive tackle prospect Braxton Mayes (6-foot-3, 285 pounds) took part in Monday's EDGYTIM Underclassmen Showcase powered by EFT Football Academy. Mayes talks about his latest recruiting news and much more in this recruiting update.
"I thought that the showcase was awesome," Mayes said. "I liked the one on ones and the drill work. It helped me get better."
Mayes, who is the younger brother of starting NIU safety Brandon Mayes talked about his latest recruiting news..
"I haven't had a ton of college contact so far and I'm trying to get my video and my name out to as many schools as I can. I camped last summer at Iowa and NIU. Since my brother plays at NIU I'm up there all the time and I saw every game last season."
Mayes talked about what he feels are his strengths on the field and more.
"I love contact and I also love to just hit. My overall pass rush skills are good and I also good against the run. I'm working on my overall speed and quickness. I want to improve my hips along with my change of direction."
So which player does Mayes admire?
"Besides my older brother (Brandon Mayes) who has the best work ethic I've ever seen, I really like the games of Dante Fowler and Vic Beasley."
No one brings you more Land of Lincoln's top prospects first than EDGYTIM
