Army vs Navy Game
Always been a big fan of the Army v Navy game. It means so much to so many people and fully deserves its own day. However with Navy now far more competitive and a G-5 spot on the line why not move it to Veterans Day. Great way to mark the day, gives it its own time slot and solves any potential delay in naming the bowl teams.

Just a thought...

How about we stop making this thread over and over again?

The game isn't moving.

Veterans day is always November 11th. Sometimes thats a Saturday, sometimes thats a Tuesday. Thats the issue. Also now Navy is in a conference so their scheduling isn't as flexible as it used to be.

Why do people pretend like playing this game so late is some kind of immutable, long-standing tradition?

Army and Navy had no problem wrapping up their seasons with everyone else through 2008, and they'd have no problem doing it that way again.

You got any inside information to share? Or is that your opinion?

I'm guessing it's the latter, because you know nothing about what Army and Navy would and wouldn't have a problem with. Less than nothing, in fact.

Why not start the season with the game? Before everyone else, just like the Kickoff Classic used to get a waiver to go first, so could this happen.

I mean it's fine where it is but for the last half century or so the game meant little when it came to national implications of any kind. Why not just use it as a ceremonial way to start the season?

No need to get pissy. By "they'd have no problem..." I'm saying that mathematically it would be possible to make the schedule, just as it was for the vast majority of this game's history. Context clues.

That would make a ton of sense if Army ever joined the American, but we already will have a Week 0 next year due to the updated Hawaii exemption. I don't know if playing the game on Sunday of Week 0 would be viable (most likely not).

If Army/Navy could be the only game on Labor Day, then we might be on to something, but I doubt the four-letter family of networks is willing to accommodate that unless if it gets the rights to the game. Army and Navy could then take a Thursday game or even an open date in Week 2 to avoid the short week.

Labor Day in primetime would be an excellent spot for it.

Except for the fact that whoever loses the game will consider the rest of the season meaningless.

Generally speaking, their seasons have been meaningless for decades until the Polynesian decided to come that way and make them really good again for the first time since Staubach.

I am so glad now that Navy and SMU ruined your dreams.

Meaningless. Guess what? Houston is in the same boat. Neither of our teams have a fair chance for the national championship.

Houston at least used to be in a major conference. Houston was arguably a win away from a national title twice in the past 40 years. Neither Army or Navy can say that any time recently.

Exactly. We saw the problematic issue that could have happened if Navy won yesterday. Sure, WMU would have surely been chosen, but they would have delayed things out of respect and assessment on anything that's even close to a close call.

They can have their own day to themselves. It just doesn't have to be on a Saturday, and it certainly doesn't have to be a regular season game post-season!

That's solved by burning a bye before or after the game. Army is indy, so burning a mid Nov bye isn't a problem (late season games are hard to schedule anyway). The AAC would be the issue, but I doubt the league would care that much. What are they really losing?

Still, I don't think that it will happen. The Army-Navy game gets great ratings because it's the only game on. I don't think that anybody wants to kill that goose.

RE: Army vs Navy Game
Army vs. Navy game has built a great tradition, I don't think you mess with that unless Army joined the American. I doubt Army severe joins a conference unless it was a realigned Conference USA as a football only member.
