Kent State vs. Grambling State
The Golden Flashes look to get back on track tonight at the MAC Center against the Grambling State Tigers. Grambling State is 3 - 4 on the season. Their wins are over North Carolina A&T, Savannah State and the always dangerous Jarvis Christian College out of Texas. The Tigers fell short against Miami (Oh) on Wednesday and have also lost to East Carolina, Providence and Virginia (90-34). They also gave up a stunning 101 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The web - site isn't the most user friendly so I am not going to delve into the stats or roster. But after a tough road trip this game could be a "get better" game for KSU. I am hoping to see some kinks ironed out and some good old fashioned defense being played. I think we will see both.

Kent State 81
Grambling State 59
Four flashes in double figures!

RE: Kent State vs. Grambling State
I watched most of the Grambling-Miami game the other night. Grambling really handled them, led by double digits for most of the game, then really lost focus and looked awful the last 5 min to let Miami send it to overtime. They have a big guy who dominated inside, but really, we should overmatch them pretty much everywhere. Miami may be the worst team in the MAC this season and benefitted from some home cooking to even get to OT and more to win. Didn't hurt them that Grambling was 9/17 from the line either. Miami made 23 FT's, IIRC.

Should be a 15-20 pt. win., but we have shown an uncanny ability to get too comfortable with big leads.

So Grambling looked like Kent State usually does?

Precisely.

That is how you beat down an inferior opponent. For all those who are down on this team, we could have played them like Miami did. =)

I think that when ever I get a little down on this team, it is because I see the ability of the individual parts. I probably just need to be more patient due to the youth of the team. If I am not mistaken, I believe that the talent potential of this team is greater than we have had for a long time. I just prayed that I will be more patient and for the players to quickly become a cohesive unit by helping each other. Hope I am not asking too much.

Saw some encouraging things from Delarosa yesterday. First game he was aggressively challenging shots. I'd like to see him become more of a force on the glass and learn to play above the rim on offense, but I assume that will come as he adjusts to his new frame.

Overall, best game we've played this year.

A few observations from the Grambling game. I thought Da La Rosa showed a lot of promise. He seemed to be more on top of the game, moved quicker and was much more athletic. Decent foul shooting also which has been a strength. I still like Peterson. Very aggressive, made some great shots and is a very good fundamental player. He needs to be played more minutes IMO. I was also impressed with Pippen. He was very athletic and got in on the action. Overall, the team seemed to make a leap forward in getting the win. Great job. There really wasn't a bad Kent player on the floor. Keep this going.

RE: Kent State vs. Grambling State
Now that we are eight games into the season I thought I would check our RPI. We are 270th. I'm not sure I've seen the men's team that low. The weak schedule is showing up. I know we still have 3 to 4 weeks of non conference schedule so it can move a bit but unless we win a a lot of games I doubt anything north of 200 is going to happen.

The women are only up from 318 last year to 287 this year so their schedule to date hasn't been all that good either.
