I think one of the reasons for so many buyouts at the Pilot was to make it more appealing for a buyer (there's a few more coming soon). I think ultimately you'll see a merging of staff in coverage of Richmond, transportation, other regional issues. In sports, I think the DP will handle UVA and VT and W&M. VP will handle the southside stuff. With no columnist in sports, obviously less attention to ODU, though Miller may be freed from his (lessening) work at UVA to devote more to ODU, probably sports features. Just guessing.

This is bad for Hampton Roads and won't be good for ODU. I wish Landmark would have tried to buy the DP a few decades ago. One of the things ODU had going for it was the generally good coverage of its sports programs in the VP. And I know people who read the VP mostly for its ODU coverage, so it helped them too. I imagine we eventually will see as much ODU stuff as we do WM (which isn't much). Times they are a changing. If you're not in a power 5 conference you get very few games on TV and you won't get much coverage in the remaining newspapers. Sucks for the rest of us.

There will be no mandate to put WM stuff in the Pilot. You're wrong there.

I like it. Just hope the state or feds are reimbursing the school for the deduction. We are too cheap as it is comparatively. I hate to see ODU hurt because of this worthwhile gesture.

I talked to some folks who are on trying to recruit more active duty to ODU. This tuition cut is to help bring the costs within the Tuition Assistance ($250 per semester hour) the military provides active service members.

A large number of the military that are taking undergrad classes are not considering ODU but rather schools like UMUC, St. Leo etc.. Some schools include books or have their literature for free online, further lowering the cost for military members.

Amounts per semester hour for active duty:

Military TA: $250
ODU: $352 (Before the new discounted rate)
Penn State World Campus: $322
UMUC: $250
Liberty: $250
Regent University: $250
UVA: $250 (For specific programs)

I noticed they stepped up their game earlier this year. Nice to see I am not the only one that noticed an improvement in this area.

Thats great. But wouldn't the online audience for ODU be in the western part of the state or the military? Maybe it flew over the base too. Seems Hampton Roads would be a target for on-campus students. I'd love to see a couple of billboards on 95, 64 and 58 promoting our traditional on campus programs. If Longwood and VCU have billboards in Hampton Roads, seems ODU should have them in Richmond, Roanoke and NoVa.

Just saw a light rail train roll by with a full ad for odu. Looked nice. Dark blue train with white letters and gold lion shield icon. Would have taken a picture but I was too slow and surprised

Billboards are terrible wastes of advertising dollars unless you really carpet bomb an area with them or use them in conjunction with a full marketing campaign. One or two, just to have them, is a waste of time and funds.

At least one car has ODU online ads covering the back of it. Might be some on the side, didn't get a good look.

ODU just lowered their undergraduate tuition for military to match the tuition assistance that they get for classes. So many times I see military memers choose other schools because of this.
Also there is a big ODU FB billboard at I64 I264 interchange.

Yeah, it looked like the full train to me. Maybe it was just the side I was on.
