The question is how many ODU grads would college night draw in for the Nationals? I would assume "not much."

I'm sure we would draw as many as the trade school in Richmond did. I would drive up from Norfolk. My car would be full of alums. I know of several Nats loving ODU alums in Arlington that would meet me at Pentagon City.

I think an "ODU Nigth with The Nats" would appeal to a much broader base of alums than the Coaches Caravan ever did. It's a lot easier sell to say "Hey baby let's go to ODU Night at Nats Park" for me than it is for me to say "Hey baby let's go to Nats Park and listen to ODU coaches talk before a Nats game." There is less than zero chance of me selling the latter. I wouldn't even be able to pull that off with a Tides game. Truth be told I never bothered with the Coaches Caravans to begin with. I really need a Nats hat with an ODU logo (or in school colors like the Nats did the first year they did college nights).

More importantly, its critical that ODU is involved and included in these types of things for perception and awareness. If VCU, GMU, JMU etc are involved, ODU needs to be right there with them fighting for a share of the space.

I remember the alumni association had a breakdown of where our alums live a few years ago. But I can't find it now. From what I remember, of the 120k+ alumni, something like 105k lived in Hampton Roads. That doesn't leave much for events like this outside the 757.

It's very annoying that ODU seems to have very little prescence in Northern VA/DC. I've harped about it before and we've all discussed it so I won't get into it again but these are marketing opportunities that ODU should hop all over. Does anyone know how the team/schools get together for the college games? Does the school reach out to the team or vice versa? A lot of the the teams they do the games for and sell hats for make sense, Georgetown, VT, UVA, GMU, JMU, UMD etc. They have a big presence in the DMV area. That could be part of the reason that ODU isn't with them but still, it's a no-brainer that we should try to get exposure like this and bring out alumni pride

kind of why I posted this and I was going to put something similar in the OP...does this one thing mean that much?--no of course it doesn't but this stuff adds up...you certainly want your logo to be up there when your brethren (or w/e) are recognized (the O's could show a little love for their AAA city also...considering the way things are going, they would probably do it if it sold a dozen more tickets :-)...

I became a fan of the Padres when I was stationed in San Diego. I lived right across the street from the stadium, so I went to quite a few of their games.

I'd attend the Padres night. Nat's and O's? nope.

That surprises me, given that 20% of the students enrolled are affiliated with the military in some way and we tend to move every few years, veterans excluded.

That stat also includes dependents.

I know. They may be more likely to move with their families as well, at least the spouses.

I figured that ODU would have their Alum base spread out more. 15k out of the area seems drastically low to me. I just graduated and all but 1 of my friends are taking jobs out of the area. I'm still TBD.

That sounds very off to me as well. Most of the folks I hung out with at ODU were from Nova and NJ. And Hampton roads as well. That figure would also imply that more than 10% of the adult population of HR, including the Peninsula are ODU graduates.

Just finished my undergrad. I'm older thanks to Navy service. Was gong to do early masters at ODU but was given bad advice.

Studying for GRE right now though.
