Baylor and TCU (I believe) were left out due to the conference not declaring a champion due to head to head play, yet here you have a team who won their head to head, won their division, and won their conference.

They can't, in good faith, select Ohio State to surpass them when Ohio State lost on the field to that very team. Ohio State is likely to be in regardless, but Penn State is in if they win the Big 10 Championship Game this weekend. Clemson is in as is Alabama. Washington is going to be out due to SoS concerns and the paradox of the Ohio State versus Penn State, conference champion versus not a conference champion, debate.

I don't agree. Ohio St has 1 loss, Penn St has two losses. Penn St lost two a 4-loss team. Ohio St is better than Penn St. A head to head doesn't negate the rest of the season.

That is completely subjective and ignores the fact that Penn State won. In a results oriented game, that win has to count for something. Taking the division from Ohio State has to count for something, and winning the conference championship has to count for something.

All of those things Ohio State could've accomplished however they did not. That is why you have a conference championship game; to solve the clusterf%#$% at the top of the Big Ten between Michigan beating Penn State, Penn State beating Ohio State, and Ohio State beating Michigan. Guess what? If Ohio State wanted to control their own destiny, they should've won the game that mattered.

Based on the logic used by the committee, they CANNOT in good faith give Ohio State the nod without giving way to Penn State if Penn State wins the conference. They will have the division, conference championship, and head to head win over Ohio State.

If they are picking the best team in the country who had the best season, head to head doesn't count for much. If they want to make it where the winners of each conference go to the playoffs, then that's perfectly fine. But if they are picking the best, it shouldn't necessarily be the conference champs. Just like Florida won't get picked if they beat Alabama. Alabama will still go to the playoff anyways. If you are going to play the head-to-head card, then lets pick Michigan over Penn St. They beat Penn St head to head and have the same record. I don't like head to head tie breakers. If two teams are both 7-1 in conference and both are ranked top 10, and team A lost to team B, and team B lost to team C who is 1-7 in conference, I would prefer team A. They have the better loss. You shouldn't reward team B for losing to the crappiest team in the conference.

If head to head doesn't count for much, then why play at all? The issue is that not only does Penn State have a head to head win over Ohio State; they have the division crown and potentially the conference championship as a result of that head to head win.

The committee has selection rules and despite what you may want to see, head to head wins and conference champions get first looks.

That would be a shame because I don't think either could be Washington.

So if Penn State wins the B10 championship, will they jump ahead of Michigan even though Michigan beat them in the regular season? That's insane.

This is why the playoff needs to be expanded to 8 teams. A scenario that even the P5 conferences would go for would be to make it the 5 conference champions from the highest rated conferences as determined by out-of-conference success plus 2 at-large bids and 1 highest ranked G5 school as the Cinderella.

Assuming Washington, Alabama, Penn State, Clemson, and Navy all win their championships it would be them plus Ohio State, Michigan, and Western Michigan in the playoff. Talk about good football!

How would you design the playoff if it was up to you? Perhaps there's even a playoff set up that would include the SBC Champion in the mix?

In what way would Western Michigan or Navy even factor into this? They're not giving non P5 conferences an auto bid period...and if they take the top 8 neither of those teams would be a factor. If you want 8 teams, simple, take the 8 best teams. In no way, shape or form should Western Michigan even be considered over anyone in the top 10 right now.

The Highest rated G5 champion is already given a spot in the Access bowl so in my scenario the Access bowl is absorbed by the CFP thereby giving the G5 champ a slot in the Playoff.
