WBB Game 5: ODU (2-2) vs Darmouth (2-2)
This Wednesday the ODU Lady Monarchs will play the Darmouth Big Green in the annual Education Game. (I realize that the men are also playing Darmouth later. This article will about the women's game....)
Darmouth College is an Ivy league school located in Hanover, New Hampshire. The term Ivy League is often associated with academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism. First year students will find that the total cost for the 2016-17 school year is $69,879. (And that doesn’t include any health insurance or computer that might be purchased through the school) But for anyone reading this who wants to attend Darmouth, you should know that free tuition can be provided for students from families with total incomes of $100,000 or less. Of course getting accepted by Darmouth is the tricky part. Darmouth also has the smallest enrollment of all the Ivy League schools. The attendance in this game will be more than the total enrollment of Darmouth by the way.
Former ODU assistant Belle Koclanes is the head coach of the Darmouth Mean Green. Her official title is the Gail Koaziara Boudreaux ’82 and Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Women’s Basketball. Named after Boudreaux who is Dartmouth’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder and a three-time Ivy League Player of the year. As a family they donated $2 million dollars to the women’s basketball program as an endowment. She is a former CEO of UnitedHealthCare and from 2008 to 2014 was named one of the 50 most powerful women in American business by Fortune.

Before I go on, I want to point out that the Ivy League is going to have a tournament this year. Normally the winner of the Ivy League’s regular season is the NCAA rep. However this year the top four teams in men’s and women’s basketball will face off in a mini-tournament.

The team plays mostly starters. From beyond the arc you have to guard Letkewicz, Szabo, McKenna, and Andi Norman. They are a solid rebounding team and they will try to go inside. We won’t dominate the inside as much as we did against NCCU.

For those that have never been to an Education Game, it’s such a contrast between a regular season home game. The crowd during the regular season is usually pretty quiet throughout the game. (Until the team needs the 6th man of course) For the Education Game though, it’s loud and energetic from start to finish. It’s fun for everyone involved and definitely something you should experience at least once.
