RE: Article Proposing SBC, CUSA Merger
As many have previously said when this topic has come up: Makes too much sense.

Personally, I'd love to see it happen. A number of schools/persons would need to set their egos aside before it could be so . .

The G5 will never have the TV Contracts/resources of the P5. To continue any kind of quasi competition with them is a long term losing proposition. Not sure how long the present G5 system will/can remain tenable . . .

RE: Article Proposing SBC, CUSA Merger
best article I have read on the subject, thanks for sharing, like the article said, need to put our egos aside, use common sense, and use the old formula of regional rivals to generate revenue and cut travel costs, chasing the tv dollar is just idiotic.

Very well written and beyond common sense. The egos should be put aside now that there is no financial advantage to being in one or the other.

Good read. I could see something like that working.

That is a very good article. It makes way to much common sense for the our "educators" to ever consider it.

I don't think ULM is going to fall on that sword for us... nor would Tech and ULM agree to be in the same conference.

I would want to keep Louisiana and Troy with us. Be nice to add NMSU.

What makes it interesting is that it comes from a serious publication not Bob's football on Wordpress.

I still remain skeptical of the idea that there will ever be a big meeting at San Destin where the presidents iron it all it. Neat clean crap like that just doesn't happen. There will be a breakaway of like minded and it will be messy and it won't fit as cleanly on a map.

Hence the part about putting egos aside.

Sounds great theoretically. Just may not be plausible in real life.

Did anyone notice that ULM is not listed on the realignment map or even the current conference map, but JMU is list on the realignment maps?

ULM would be in a conference with La Tech but LT would not want to be in a conference with ULM.

ULM budget is low but we still beat teams with higher budgets. I guess I am
A homer but why would ULM need to be excluded?

I don't want to be in a conference with North Texas, FAU, and FIU. They are drags.

The footprint the Sun Belt is going to have in 2018 will be great after NMSU and Idaho leave. Let CUSA deal with their own problems... and if someone wants to jump ship from CUSA that's worth a crap, then bring them on in.

So our piece of the CFP pie doesn't get a lot smaller with the merger?

RE: Article Proposing SBC, CUSA Merger
A socialist mindset would approve of the idea that an independent entity would release the schools that keep them competitive to another conference with no compensation. The eastern portion of the C-USA and Sun Belt would be far more competitive than the western portion of both conferences, which makes this a losing proposition for each conference. I hate to make this political but in a sense, this is the definition of socialism gaining normalcy in US society (as it has been happening for the last 60 years).

Economics will eventually make it happen as ASU AD stated.

Butts in seats has always been the revenue generator, not TV. If fans are only interested in regional teams it will happen sooner rather than later.
