Oh geez, it's gonna be Hansen isn't it? You sure freshman aren't eligible? They are newcomers after all.

There is a freshman of the year and a newcomer award; so freshman for one, transfers for the other.

I went back and looked at last year's presser and you're all wrong. Here are the awards:
Sun Belt Student-Athlete of the Year Award
Sun Belt Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year Award
Sun Belt Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year Award
Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Award
Sun Belt Coach of the Year Award

DPOY: Rolland-Jones

Coach: Petrino (see above post)

Makes sense except I hope it's Brown. He has done a great job.

COY: Petrino (should be Brown, but based on the winner last year I will predict Petrino)

Was thinking the same thing...I wouldn't be shocked.

One of the biggest turn arounds in college football, First top 25 SBC team and potentially first SBC championship in his 2nd year...But lets give it to Petrino just to throw everyone off

I love Paul Petrino and overall I think he's accomplished a much, much more difficult turnaround than Neal Brown has, and with far bigger obstacles in his way. But it was a multiyear effort.

This year, Petrino and Brown both took 4-8 teams from last year and turned them into winners. But Brown's team is better than Petrino's. So I think you have to give COY to Brown.

If there were a "Coach of the Last 2 Years" award, or an award for most impressive turnaround I'd give either to Petrino hands down.

No, I'm correct. They've added a Newcomer of the Year this year.

They took it away for awhile because certain presidents didn't like the fact that the conference recognized JUCO players, because for some reason they felt JUCO players were bad.

I see...I didn't realize that.

And it was Chris Bradwell I was thinking of in 2007...also Levi Brown in 2008 as NCOTY.

DPOY - Chris Odom

His overall body of work is more impressive than Rolland-Jones.

If there's a defensive player better in this conference better than Ukeme Eligwe I haven't seen him. Of course he won't get DPOTY.

Chris Odom will probably get it with his sacks and forced fumbles.

Eligwe was really impressive when we played him. Probably the most impactful individual defensive player we played against this year. You just don't see many players on losing teams win these awards. Same reason the NMSU and Texas State guys won't win it despite being top 3 in the country in tackles.

Well, they picked Larry Rose for OPOTY last year over Matt Breida.
