LOL. Championship rings are going to be like participation trophies this year. Everyone gets one. Ah well, it's this kind of goofball stuff that keeps me watching college football.

Whatever. App is 20-4 in three years in the Sun Belt, tied for best record in the league over that time with stAte. No apologies for celebrating a conference championship. And they're certainly not handing out rings to Idaho, NMSU, Texas State, Louisiana, ULM, S. Ala., Ga. State, or Ga. Southern, so it's not just a participation trophy. It's three teams going 7-for-8.

Pretty much. A-ST wins this game most of the time, but it's probably not a blow out.

I agree. Troy is a wonderful matchup for us. We're great at stopping the run, which slows down Chunn and forces Silvers to spend more time in the pocket, where our DL can cause chaos.

It's sort of like Toledo representing a horrible matchup for us. We claimed for 3 years that the reason we lost to Toledo was because we didn't play well, but after this season its perfectly clear to me that they are just an awful matchup for us.

I think there is a point to Troy tiring out, and that probably helped turn the game into a blowout, but my guess is the outcome is the same even if both teams are on regular rest.

No real choice this year. If it was just Troy and AState tied, there might be a point since AState clearly beat Troy, but AState and App didn't play, there is no way to objectively break a tie between the two teams, and if Troy shares, it makes it even harder.

Exhale brother. It was a joke. Just making light of the probability of a 3 way tie. Not something you see everyday.

Wasn't the last 3 way tie in the Sunbelt back in 2005? The year ASU got to go to the New Orleans Bowl........except that it was played in Lafayette due to Hurricane Katrina?

I'm just pleased at the amount of success we've had in this conference already. 20/24 is impressive for a I-AA move-up. I thought it would take longer to compete for and win a conference championship. One bad half away last season and a good chance we'll have two in our first four seasons after next year.

If Troy and stAte win this weekend we have a three way championship. If not, then we have 2 co-champs or 1 individual champion. It is what it is.

The fact is stAte, App, and Troy couldn't get it done going undefeated in conference play. All three of them have played Sun Belt championship quality football, and all of them haven't taken care of business at a point when they needed to.

Yup.

BTW, I fully acknowledge that if there was a SBC championship game this year, App would be on the outside looking in. But it's not 2018. It's 2016, and no one can blame App fans for celebrating a conference championship, even if App did "back" into it. They're not the first team to win a conference title depending on other teams to lose.

I don't buy into "backed in"
App did what 8 Sun Belt schools failed to do, win 7 conference games and jury is out on whether Troy and AState reach 7 as well even though it is likely.

From 1896 through 1991 conferences were able to build college football into a major attraction despite often having split conference titles even when conferences had as many as 20 members.

It won't be a legit CCG unless everyone plays each other, or nobody plays across division lines. As it stands now we have a flawed system.

Hard to have back to back games like that and 5 days apart against the top 2 teams. I figured we would drop 1 of the two.

And I was told, in a nutshell, that I didn't know what I was talking about when saying that playing Arkansas State on five days rest after playing a physical, if not emotional, game against App would be difficult.

At any rate, i'm glad everything turned out the way it did. Though i'm not sure that the two FCS call-ups having a hand in the conference title in 2 of their first 3 years is any better of a look than Arkansas State winning a share after their OOC season.

App and GS are just the two most recent call ups, by a short period of time. Ga. State was brand new in like 2010 and joined the SBC from FCS in 2013, one year before App and GS. Texas State was an FCS call up to the WAC in 2012 before joining the SBC in 2013. South Alabama joined the SBC football league and FBS in 2012 after starting up in 2009.

In reality, no one in the league full time has been FBS for a really long time except for Louisiana, who's been D1A/FBS since the 70's. Ark. State joined 1A in the early 90's. Troy in 2001. ULM shortly thereafter. For the affiliates, NMSU has been D1A/FBS forever and Idaho since 1996.

Arkansas State was D-1/1A from 75 through 81.

So was App from '71 to '81. I was just trying to point out that almost all of the programs in this league had to come up from 1AA/FCS, whether or not they had been 1A once upon a time or not.

EDIT: App was 1A starting in 1972. AppInVA knows his stuff.
There was no 1-A until 1978 when DI was separated into 1-A & 1-AA prior to the '78 season. App joined NCAA DI in 1971 when it moved from NAIA to the SoCon. App was technically 1-A from '78 to '82. We were reclassified prior to the 83 season.

Random question - anyone know how many programs have won 20 SBC games over three years?

I assume N. Texas, Troy, and Ark St. are the others.

TROY win 20 games from 2008-2010

TROY won 32 games from 2006-2010 also

Also of Note Troy and stAte have the most league football titles. If we both win this weekend we will both have 6

Hopefully App can win 12 SBC games over the next two years to match that 32.
