We take on Evansville today in the finale of the Challenge in Music City. We have won the tournament already since we beat the other two top teams, UNC Wilmington and Toledo. This game is to sweep and move to 6-1. Evansville has played tough against both UNCW and Toledo (they lost to both) so we will have to bring the same energy we brought the last two days.

UAB loses to #15 Saint Mary's 63-76. They hit 13 3's (50%). Our 3 point defense is really bad so far this year

Don't look now but he league is actually a game over .500 and about to be two with FIU poised to get their first win. Still need to be about 15 to 20 pct points higher to have a postseason chance at more than one.

We sit at 6-1 and still haven't really played a good game for 40 minutes yet. Offensively, we seem to be settling a lot for contested jump shots, not getting the ball to the inside enough and not nearly enough slashing and getting to the line.

This team is either going to be a disaster waiting to happen or as they gel and get better start dominating some people. Our non-conf schedule gets even harder from here, so if we keep playing as we have been we're going to struggle. Looking forward to seeing how these guys come together.

We play them pretty soon and your 3 point D can't be any worse than ours. Maybe we can show some signs of improvement by then.

Glad to see some wins coming in. Good sign. Still don't have a significant win in conference though that I am aware of.

The good news is we have looked less and less discombobulated as the season has gone on. And we have won all but one of those wobbly games... FTs gotta improve but we are getting better at playing as a team. Definitely will be interesting to see how we fare against bigger, faster teams like Ole Miss and Vandy.

Charlotte beats Apple State 80-72

Niners scraping by what is essentially a D2 program, tough times in Charlotte.

Games with App are always close, not matter the talent disparity.

We now have a non-conference record of 36-33, yet our Conference RPI is still #22. Odd, since last year we were well below .500 in winning percentage but had a higher ranked conference RPI.

It's too early to judge individual teams' RPIs, but I thought it might be slightly useful at the more macro, conference level.

I am glad UTEP doesn't play until this weekend. Maybe the dumpster fire in our program can be put out by then. I think it is 50/50 at this point. I wouldn't be surprised at all if UTEP finished the season with an RPI above 250.

Each year I repeat this but I shall do it again. It is early, so keep that in mind.

By the time we get to conference play and particularly by the time we get to the end of the season there is a near one to one correlation between the conference's win percentage and its ranking. So, whatever the league's win percentage rank will be is likely where we will end up in the RPI ranking.

If all win percentages stayed equal through the rest of the season we would finish 11th.

Yeah RPI is a meaningless stat at this point in the season. Need to get to like 15 games before it starts to be remotely accurate.

UAB wins over a weak opponent by 30. At least we did what we are supposed to do against a little sister.
