What he's actually saying isn't that bad. He's looking not just at on the field talent, but intangibles. CLF said the exact same thing. The issue is in how you say it.

For some reason, CBJ can't figure out how to avoid stupid phrases like "champions of life" or "five star heart".

I don't care about Butch at Tennessee but wow he does continue to be the King of Coach Speak Cliches.

I guess it depends on what Jones' definition of "contending" is. If it's that you have a shot, then every team "contends". This is great stuff! Thanks for sharing.

I get that Tennessee was a bit of a "big dog" 20 years ago, but at what point does the Tennessee, and SEC faithful realize that the entire conference has basically been two or maybe three teams with an actual chance for the past 10 years?

Tennessee is now in the same boat as South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri, etc who won't be able to compete with Alabama. Hell, even LSU might be falling into the 2nd tier of SEC teams leaving Alabama above the rest.
