Samurai, I'll be honest in saying that I never expected UGa to dominate the way that we did. I expected this game to be fairly close, and maybe turning into an overtime affair. I do think that Clemson might have been robbed of a touchdown or two thanks to the officiating (which Tommy Bowden had a right to be upset at), but it did seem like that Clemson was going for the tds late in the game, whereas UGa just wanted to score period. One thing I did notice though is that the Dawgs drove hard to get the first td of the game. It was apparent that the team wanted to set the tone for the game quickly. Clemson seemed content to let UGa score the first td, and then tried to answer later on. The keys for Clemson winning these types of games are to score big early and keep the pressure on through out the game. It took awhile for UGa to learn how to do that, but we finally learned. Although this is Mark Richt's team, I really think the Dawgs started learning how to win under Jim Donnan. It was said prior to a Georgia-Mississippi State game, Donnan took a steam roller and rolled right over a can, and told the team, "This is what we will do to Mississippi State." And that's exactly what happened. Richt did not change this philosophy at all, and even enhanced it some, using some FSU strategy.
As much as I hate to give advice to the rival (
), Clemson will have to do the following things to build a winning program:
1. Get a recruiter who can deliver the best in-state prospects.
2. Get a veteran coach or an assistant who knows how to win.
3. Recruits big, fast rbs, and big, fast lbs.
4. Build big and intimidating offensive and defensive lines.
5. Get good receivers and good qbs.
Clemson has #5, maybe #2. The rest they need to work on, IMO. Anyway, good game Samurai. Let's hope the NCAA makes the 12 game schedule permanent so we can see more of these games.
