Looks like more JUCO wide receivers and one JUCO DT is what we are targetting

It is kind of hard, at least for me, to follow FB recruiting this time of year, but is Gerrit Prince still in play?

Also, I think it is wise to hold say 2 schollies POST spring ball once the staff know what everyone can do, who left, who is hurt, and which mid-year JUCOs may, or may not, be the answer to unmet needs.

I also work from the premise that a true freshman isn't expected to contribute. If a few do that is a good thing, but I don't like the logic, "We have a hole at say OT and we have good frosh OLs coming in so they can fill it..."

Again, it is my philosophy: Until a recruit gets on campus and puts on the pads and the staff can see what he can do, he is still pretty much an unknown quantity. Press clippings at that point don't mean much...

EDIT: I do, seemingly, waver from that with QBs which I think are easier to observe because their game is so much different than say an OL or DB.

Not a bad thing.

We look at athletics, and not at academics (like how could we know a prospect's academics?).

This late in the recruiting game I'm sure coaches are making sure the JUCO prospects have graduated this month or will next month. Like, show us you are 99% sure of graduation and we'll offer you. Otherwise, we won't take a chance.

I wonder for someone like Prince if schools are waiting to see if he graduates this spring.

Prince would be a huge recruit, with Odukoya injured already. His film definitely looks like he'd be playing from Day 1. Hybrid TE/slot, or out wide, especially in the red zone. Definite mismatch if the scheme used him properly.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
One parenthetical comment about late commits/signees.

It is easy to say 'waiting for transcripts or graduation, etc.' but it could be anything, e.g., injury, situations at home, etc. where the player or the school wishes to wait before making a commitment.

Too often we portray these decisions like going to Baskin Robbins and getting a scoop. I know 31 flavors is tough, but if a player if coming off an injury or seriously ill family member, etc. decisions are tougher (than Baskin Robbins).

Some of these kids are going to be far from home. Much different than say Howie who has his entire life in front of him, being what a 20 minute from from campus.

We are following Daxton Byers and Forrest Mitchell on Twitter. Not sure if they're 2018/19 football recruit candidates.

ETough, do you have any insight if he'll be ready for fall camp?

WMU picked up two grad transfers who might come through for them.

Harris apparently had been beset with injuries. Dowels apparently played a lot for Syracuse and seems a solid pick up.

Looks like we picked up a transfer, Samari Saddler, an offensive lineman class of 2017 who originally committed to Navy and now apparently at EMU.

Good find!!!

I can't find any evidence that he was on the Navy roster in 2017.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/tea.../_/id/2426

Here is a section of the 2017 Navy media guide (the section with players with 'S' last names') and he was not listed.

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/navy...r-bios.pdf

I went through the 2017 media guide and no indications of him at all

As they say, this raises more questions, than answers. I really wonder if he ever showed up at Navy.

The big question is would he be treated as a true frosh for us in 2018?

Interesting. Good find, 79!

His Twitter bio says class of 2022, so that would make him a redshirt freshman. Correct?

Comes from an outstanding High School (Cinci Moeller; aka Jr. Griffey High). Had a pile of D1 offers. Could be really good.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
Indeed. This looks like a case where he might have been committed (signed) with Navy and did not attend and sat out 2017 and now might be re-recruited, without sit-out penalty (?) with the consent of the Naval academy.

The one caveat is that recruiting and the recruiting process is more complicated with the service academies as they don't function as typical universities. One will never know if he had a change or heart or if he wasn't admitted to the academy or whatever...

That said, EMU might have stolen TWO guards in this class, Howie and Saddler. Both are highly regarded MAC recruits. Both of big guys who can anchor the interior OLine.

One thing we can say about CC and the staff: They seem to be working both the DL and OL and getting it done.

The Naval Academy has about an 8% acceptance rate with a SAT score below 1250(out of 1600) considered a reach.

JUCO WR Jordan Wayne-Prather who we recruited and offered back in January decommitted from Marshall today. Attended the same college as Turan Rush. Are we still in the market for another WR?
