RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
What I like is that there is apparently some very good 2018 prospects still out there which EMU is looking at (or has committed to) who are the same type of recruits we'd love to have signed in February.

Prospects/recruits like Saddler, Scott, Wayne-Prather, etc. are recruits who we recruited or would have recruited earlier this year.

Do you think we are OVER 85?

I'm guessing that we are UNDER 85 and filling the last remaining scholarships which became available after Feb signing period.

I assume we are filling available scholarships like Figuerosa, Bukoski (If he has graduated already), etc.
Or there will be more departures 5th year seniors not returning transfers daugherty is on the roster for example and out for the year come September will he still be there?

The logic behind this is pretty straight forward:

A good percentage of redshirts will have completed their four year degree by the end of their third athletic year in school (thanks to their ability to take spring/summer courses).

If I understand it, they may take 12 hours, rather than 15, in their 2-semester academic year, thereby leaving them say 6 hours 'short' for the academic year. Those 6 hours can be made up in spring/summer.

Players will know, by their rising senior year if they are in the 2-deeps, special teams, or 'team members.' Spring ball is the ultimate 'reality test.' A player should know how he stands on 2-deeps, etc. and the team depth at his position.

It is entirely possible that some player with a degree but with one year of eligibility left, might opt to 'move on' if he feels the WORK, EFFORT, etc. to be a player is more than the benefits of being a bench player.

Or as we all know, if a player gets his degree and has a year of athletic eligibility remaining, other conferences such as FCS or D-II (e.g., GLIAC) can be good options.

Nothing wrong with playing a year at Ferris, GVSU, WSU, etc. I love that the GLIAC has such good programs, esp. in MI, which are viable options for FBS (or FCS) players to transfer to, esp. as grad transfers.

A players who thought, but wasn't good enough to play for MSU, can try CMU (smile). If he can't play at CMU he can try... Not everyone is good enough to play FB at Alabama or be a student at Harvard. Just find a school which is a good match for the student (or student/athlete).

For those players, it's not really their choice. It is well known in advance that EMU will not be paying for an extra year once a player graduates, if he's not going to see the field, or at least in the 2 deep.

I'm sure Creighton could make exceptions, but it really makes no sense for the program.
