Good. Firing KB would be an admittance that WS made a mistake. And I think his ego is too fragile to handle that.

Can we cut out the personal attacks that have zero basis?

I'm sorry. I didn't realize a clearly stated opinion (a tongue-in-cheek opinion, nonetheless) was not allowed on a message board.

Noted.

Having an opinion isn't the issue. If you have met and spoken with WS and came to that conclusion, then I understand your opinion. If you have not, then it is completely childish to make an assumption about WS's ego.

Selig has been here five or six years, has he let go of any coaches that he hired? I don't know the answer and don't care to do the research. Is it ego? Who knows.

I do know that he ran Wendy Larry and Beth Anders out of their positions, who combined have more national championships than his hired coaches will likely ever see. I can see how Wendy's program was on the decline but IMO she was still better than what we have now. Karen seems like a great player's coach and recruiter but she isn't bringing us back to the sweet 16 anytime soon (hope I am wrong).

He hasn't let go of a single one.

Meanwhile the baseball program is in decline, the field hockey program is in decline and the pride of old dominion university, women's basketball is in complete and total collapse.

The only hire that looks half way decent right now is Jeff jones and I'm still not 100% sold on him (at least he's winning though). When he makes an NCAA tourney I'll be satisfied and not before.

But by any rational measure, Wood Selig has been mediocre AT BEST.

Unless there are boosters ready to open their wallets and pay the buyouts of the baseball, field hockey, and women's basketball teams, I doubt they are going anywhere until their buyouts become manageable.

People (on this board) seem to think that firing a coach is like firing an everyday average employee. 07-coffee3

Barefoot should have never been hired. Her resume made that clear from day one (coming into ODU with an overall losing record in Division I and no tournament experience). But for some reason Wood thought that she would bring ODU back to greatness after an otherwise lackluster tenure at Elon? Poor judgement on his part. ODU women's basketball is embarrassingly awful. And yes, I do believe ego has a part to play on why she isn't gone already. Also, don't be shocked folks when Hampton rolls into the Ted and wins later this season.

We shouldn't fire them, we should wait out all of their contracts.

Who we should fire is the bozo who hired all of them in the first place and forced out legends like Anders and Larry.

Agree. WS knows we can't afford to buy out coaches in low revenue sports. All available revenue is earmarked for football. I don't know how many years KB has left on her contract, but once a buy out is cheaper than the amount of lost revenue due to decreased attendance, she'll be gone. Meanwhile, it's "cheaper to keep her".

The baseball coach and WS are working toward an extension.

I blame the hire on Tony Mercurio. He was championing her on the radio if I remember correctly.
