Hey Fellow Dragons,

We now have our first recruit of the new era. Power forward 6-8: Jarvis Doles from Md.

The son of former Temple and NBA player Tim Perry completes the 17-18 recruiting class assuming no one leaves early. Perry and Doles together with the two transfer guards seem like a solid group of newcomers for next year.

Pretty cool. That would give Drexel 3 kids of former NBA players on next year's roster.

That's cool but he wasn't listed anywhere must have been very recent.

Looking forward to watching Perry at DU. Spiker is doing a great job so far.

Verbal commits shows that Drexel just offer a point guard for 2017. Makes you wonder if someone has already deciding they are leaving.

Yeah his Twitter account has it announced yesterday. That's a head scratcher..

I am trying to get Thursday off from work. I should be able to and if successful, I'm going to try to make a trip up to Life Center Academy by Trenton before the Drexel. Perry is playing. Fingers crossed...

Also, this new guy may not even come here as there are bunch of other schools fighting for him. According to his twitter Drexel Ball State and Elon was at his game a few days ago.

However, my guess on who may transfer:

1. Sammy because, he wanted to leave last year but stayed last minute.
2. Major due to injuries he could be retiring after this season
3. Peck or Green as they are Bruisers guys and they aren't getting minutes.

People who are staying/ don't have a basketball reason to transfer:

Austin Williams
Miles Overton
Kirk Lee
Myles
Harper
Isabell

Thoughts?

When I saw this my first thought was potentially Major. He could be at the point where he could graduate and go elsewhere without sitting. Ending his career because of injury could also be a possibility but he seems to be doing well now so I would hope that is not the case after his two injuries.

I think Sammy stays. He seems to be doing well in the new system and after exploring leaving last year, I don't see him doing it again going into his senior year.

I wouldn't rule out Lee either. Given the success he has seen and depending on who he is listening to, maybe he thinks he can make a move up to a bigger name school. We've seen this with other CAA rookies in recent years - Adam Smith, Chaz Williams, Elijah Bryant and even Terrell Allen.

Peck and Green could be possibilities although may see more opportunity with Williams and Bah leaving. There is a possibility that Overton could have the credits to graduate and move on without having to sit too.

It is probably silly to even be speculating since we don't really know that anyone is leaving and there could be personal reasons for anyone that might cause them to leave, but hey that what message boards are for right?

RE: Recruiting 2017-18
The funny thing about the example you gave in Chaz was that there was never any doubt he could succeed at the higher level, the problem for him was its hard to convince the major programs to go after a point guard who is 5'9". I remember when he committed to HU that FOTY said there was no reason the big east didn't come calling other than his height. The other guys like Elijah and Terrell will be interesting to see how they pan out at the higher level, but Adam Smith was decently productive at Tech. There will always be good players that fall through the cracks and then get realized later on by the bigger programs, and those players will always be willing to make the jump for exposure.

As far as speculating, it is hard to do so because people have different motivations and you never know what each of their circumstances are. Terrell showed last year you can never assume freshman won't jump even if they are staring or a feature player

Though its understandable when your coach gets fired to move on to a different team. Lee was recruited by Spiker and it seems like they have a good relationship. From what it looks like, this kid has many schools visiting him in the past two weeks. I think we may have offered him a scholarship just to be in the "game" and then Drexel would have to figure out what to do next. I don't think we have a realistic chance of getting this guy.

With Major being honored as a part of Senior Night I guess we have our answer here. I assume if he is graduating, he should be able to play somewhere else immediately if he want to.

It would be interesting to know though if it is an injury issue, or he sees the writing on the wall of little playing time with the transfers coming in next year, or he is gently being pushed out the door to make room for more of Spiker's guys.

I agree it looks like he will be done after this season as they are honoring him. He could be just retiring with all of the injuries or maybe he will work with the Drexel coaching staff ( similar to bruiser staff). It will be interesting to see who replaces him as of now as we only have one pg excluding the transfer.

Both Isabell and Harper are listed as point guards. It seems a bit of a hard sell to a point guard to come in a play behind Lee for 3 years especially with the other guys there for two years as well. But I guess we'll see.

RE: Recruiting 2017-18
He's graduating, not retiring. Also, Major is a business major not a sport management guy or some other soft major, and thus, I seriously doubt that he sticks around as a member of the staff.

The press release confirms it...

DRAGONS CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT VS. JMU ON THURSDAY

Philadelphia - Drexel will close the home portion of its schedule on Thursday against James Madison. It will be Senior Night as the Dragons honor seven members of the program. Mohamed Bah, Major Canady, Elgin Ford Jr., John Moran and Rodney Williams will join managers Talia Epstein and Hayley McKnight in saying farewell to the DAC and its fans.

Perhaps the only question is, will he go somewhere else for a masters degree and play one more year.

All that said, I give him a long standing ovation. For all that he battled through to get back on the court, he is truly a classy individual and a dedicated, hard work working member of our school. I wish him the very best in the future.

Drexel now has one spot open and we already got 2 bigs coming in. Sometimes verbals doesn't align recruits well one of them could be a pure sg.

RE: Recruiting 2017-18
Someone directly asked Spiker in the postgame about Major's remaining eligibility. He said a decision will be made later in the spring but he wanted to make sure Major got honored since this was the class he came in with.

So perhaps he can come back next year, get honored again since a sixth year would still be unsure then do it all again the next year after he gets an NCAA wavier to make it three Senior nights.

Did Fouch get honored after his junior year? If I remember right the wavier for a sixth year hadn't been approved by the end of the season.

No he or our other broken players didn't get honored his junior year ( I was at the game) or they finally graduated.

I also heard a few rumors about Green may transfer and one of our transfers may be leaving Drexel ( off the field issues non academic reason issues) so who knows... about next year. For me as long as Lee, Sammy, Williams and the iceman stay I am happy.

Appreciate the kind words, but to be honest, it is significantly more challenging at Temple than it is at Drexel.
