RE: WKU officially signs #5 overall Mitchell Robinson
WKY is immediately the conference favorite when those guys step on campus. The question for the program long term is how long those guys stay and how to maintain the high level of recruiting without losing some wins down the road or having Stansbury quit when the NCAA starts digging like he did at Miss State. But, overall, it's still a positive for WKY and the conference.

Someone has to be the new Memphis. As long as CUSA gets two teams in the dance now Im happy. Should be some good battles with UAB, WKU, ODU and Marshall in the next year.

lol...kudos and 04-cheers

seriously, that's how you move forward!!!

if I had to choose the school that has made all the right moves over the last handful, it's WKU and Tech all day long....

One time I posted that part of Silky's acceptance speech on Facebook, and a friend messaged me to ask if I was directing that toward her. I was like "woman, if you can't recognize Dave Chappelle at 10 paces then I don't think we should be friends anyway."

We're still friends. I think.

Awesome signing. But this thread only became epic when Silky Johnson arrived.

In case you missed it, Silky appeared on SNL last weekend.

So on a recruiting visit does Stansbury say "Hello, I am the coach at Western Kentucky and I have a scholarship for you!"

Congrats. 01-ncaabbs

As long as it's legal...... I agree.

Stansbury gets a lot of respect, when he got here he said with the facilities WKU had, WKU was about to get back to its roots and become a power again...... I think he knew if he could get the kids on campus they would be sold.

Maybe he says "Would you rather play a brutal ACC schedule or come to Western and put up 25+ points per game vs. CUSA foes?"

Probably was part of it. WKUs history and state of the art facilities help a ton. Plus you can ask who was the best player in the NBA? Stephon Curry and he went to Davidson. Don't need to play at a P5 school to be a super star in the NBA. Come to WKU and become a Hilltopper legend or just be another 5 star recruit fighting for playing time at a P5 school.

I've often wondered why that line of thinking isn't more common among big-name recruits. Maybe it's mostly a pride thing (which I can understand). But are they ALL so short-sighted?

I know that it is very easy for me to say, since it's not my future in question, but I view the top 10 CUSA teams as being better platforms than any P5 program for a super-skilled recruit to catch the eye of NBA scouts.

Perhaps WKU has broken the ice. At least that's my hope.

While Western has good facilities, it is still no comparison to bigger name schools. Just look at the new Thompson Center at Georgetown for example. If I was a recruit, I would certainly take advantage of the better facilities and exposure; while playing against other big name players as opposed to being a big fish in a small pond. Even with Curry, there was some question about how his game translates to the next level because of all the cupcake opponents. (though he performed big time against big schools as well)

Now, if you are talking about some low level SEC school vs. a top CUSA school, that is different.

I'd say WKU facilities compare favorably with most (for you MUTS and Herd fans, except for FB seating 07-coffee3). If we can get the IPF built, then much better!

Our basketball facilities stack up or exceed with all but the NBA d league places. (U of l, etc etc) honestly no one compares to those. But it's also why The city of Louisville is losing money hand over fist letting u of l use it for free pretty much

Based on what?

You think their facilities are better than Nova, Kentucky, Georgetown, VCU, Old Miss, etc.?

I'm honored our players will get to lose to such talent. It will be less embarrassing that way.
