We've seen it first hand at Drexel and just about everywhere in the country. If not much has changed at UNH in 30+ years, that's clearly a problem with their program up there and maybe says something as to why he couldn't win there.

And to be clear, UNH didn't have great facilities 30 years ago.

I went to a game there in the mid-90s and the gym was cold, empty and bleak. There were four of us from Drexel being loud and I won't say we took the place over, but we were heard.

RE: Drexel Dragons Alumni Thread
this happened a few weeks ago but keishanna washington was released from the lynx. now that i have reasons to follow the wnba...i'm finding out some not so pleasant things like somewhere around 40-50% of players who are drafted don't even make a roster. she was clearly up against it as an undrafted player. i was talking to somebody who's more in the know about wnba and they'd like to see expansion so there are more places for players to go. i'd love to see it in philly.

they bury their games on ion...a streaming service i had never heard of.

I agree that it's difficult to get a roster spot in the WNBA, but the few teams has to do with the league's attendance struggles and lack of interest. There has been talks about the WNBA coming to Philadelphia and numerous articles about it in the Inquirer. This is still several years away, but it will make a lot of sense when the Sixers build their new arena, as the city would have two major arenas to fill dates for. Liacourus Center would make the most sense for now as a WNBA destination, but there are questions as to whether people would venture to North Philadelphia to watch the team.

And Ion is a national over the air TV network. I think senior citizens are their target audience that shows mostly reruns of old detective shows. Channel 61 is the station in Philadelphia and it is on cable. They're not the regular broadcast partner for the WNBA, but they are starting to venture into broadcasting live sports. Ion will be showing a nationally televised WNBA game of the week starting next season.

Having only 8 teams in the WNBA is crazy.

got it. i googled it and saw a streaming service. i'll have to look to see if we get it on cable.

it's a separate issue but building a basketball arena would be idiotic. especially for that garbage franchise. i'm not just saying it because i listen to howard eskin on saturdays. it amazes me with all the crime, poverty, and crumbling infrastructure that there always seems to be money for arenas and stadiums. i knew i was back in american from japan when i had to walk through a homeless camp to get to the pristine baseball stadium in seattle.

There are 12. But yes, also crazy.

There are somewhere around 132 active WNBA players. Total.

Inquirer talked to Bruiser, who says he'd like to be a head coach again: https://www.inquirer.com/college-sports/...40321.html

If he were to get a HC job, it would have to be for a lower level mid major who is trying to get some name recognition by having a familiar name coaching them.

i can't see this through the pay wall but i'm getting the feeling he didn't like how things ended at drexel. he said as much on a podcast i listened to last year. he is delusional if he thinks that.

Ah sorry about the paywall. I'd do a gift link if the Inky let me, but they don't.

He didn't really have anything to say about Drexel the institution. More just sounds like disappointment:
“You never want to end the way I ended it,” he said. “I think I’ve learned some things since then. I feel as though I could still do it. I’d like to prove it.”

The story is mostly about how he's a Calipari whisperer/translator. He misses Philly but has learned he can live anywhere.

And I agree J.B. He'd have to start pretty much over.

Frantz alluded to it on our podcast, I think Bruiser would struggle even moreso. His style of coaching is going the way side, and I dont see him being able to coach any other way. His style of basketball really doesnt fit in todays game. And recruiting now is all about dollars and little else, so unless he is at a deep pocketed university, would he even be able to get good enough recruits? I am quite sure he learned things at Indiana and Kentucky, but just not sure how adaptable he is to the game. Wish him well if he finds somewhere to take a flier on him though

yeah...i worry about his style these days. it was borderline effective before. i was listening to a podcast today where they were talking about kentucky not playing any defense. not sure what bruiser's role is on that bench if they don't play defense.

i do wish him well though as long as he recognizes he could've done better at drexel. we all can do better so there's nothing wrong with that. he accomplished a lot too. there would be something wrong with thinking he deserves a second chance because we somehow shafted him.

RE: Drexel Dragons Alumni Thread
i'm going to try to match up with dan here by hopefully accurately putting together bruiser's record as an assistant in light of kentucky's first round exist last night...

Indiana
2017-2018: No postseason - 16-15 - 6th in the big 10
2018-2019: NIT Quarterfinals - 19-16 - 9th in the Big 10
2019-2020: No postseason (COVID) - 20-12 record and finished 10th in the Big 10

Kentucky
2020-2021: 9-16 - No Postseason
2021-2022: Lost in NCAA First Round
2022-2023: Lost in NCAA Second Round
2023-2024: Lost in NCAA First Round

so not good. obviously there are multiple factors. indiana in particular has really struggled to get back on their feet. if i'm a kentucky fan though...and they're not going to buy out calipari...i'm at least wanting a shake up on the bench.
