Turn Over Margin
With a turn over margin of 15, we are now tied for the national lead with Washington and Western Michigan, and ahead of fourth place Ohio State. Pretty heady company for the Monarchs!

RE: Turn Over Margin
The program is getting there. Fans just need to have patience. Be excited to have 2 and 3 star recruits because those guys play with a chip on their shoulder and are willing to put in the work to prove everyone they can run with the big dogs. VT's success was built on guys like that. As fans, we just have to get in the seats before kickoff and stay until the end. If you can make it to the bowl game this year, go! Show the bowl committees (and the team) ODU fans are committed to the team and are willing to travel to see them.

RE: Turn Over Margin
To continue with the off topic posts... I think this season will be huge for recruiting. If we go 9-3 (7-1), with a defense that has been dominant at times, I think we will really catch the attention of some local recruits, especially on the defensive side (where this area really shines). This season could really be a launching pad to a team that is dominant defensively year in and year out.

This!
Could get some kids to think twice about VT and stay in the area.
Why go to the middle of nowhere when you got the beach so close? :)

Another excellent stat is 32nd in nation in penalty yards per game. We don't hurt ourselves.

I have to imagine this will give a injection into recruiting.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Great on taking care of the ball. Terrible in the Red Zone on both offense and defense. If we get that fixed then look out.

The thought of players coming here to play for a great defense is so foreign to me.

In fact, it seems like it must be a part of a dream. Of course, the entirety of the ODU Football start-up has had a dream like quality to it. Can't wait for the movie someday. 04-cheers

Our red zone offense numbers were terrible before we were able to figure out our kicking game. We are 21 of our last 21 in red zone offense.

Just reading the numbers: No. 113 in Red Zone defense and No. 81 on Red Zone offense. Red Zone offense seems to be getting better though.

Also, No. 107 in 3rd down conversions is nothing to brag about. That still needs to be an emphasis to improve. Too many run plays on 3rd and long I believe.

Its important to consider the improvements since Davis came back. But, ignoring that, red zone scoring percentage is an awful measure. We have been in the red zone 44 times and have 27 touchdowns to 9 field goals. That is 4.3 points per red zone trip. A team could have gotten down 44 times and kicked 44 field goals and resulted in 3 points per red zone trip. I bet in the last 5-6 games, our red zone numbers have been much better?

Defense has been a bit of a struggle in the red zone. Seems like we haven't had good success on 4th down in the red zone. But, luckily, we haven't let teams get into the red zone all that much.

EDIT: Plus we got a kneel down in the last game. Not sure if we've done that in any others.

It depends on what you want. If we are passing on third and long we are going to probably have more conversions, but most certainly have more turnovers. We have a very young offensive line that struggles to pass block and Wilder(and company) have protected the young line/inexperienced QB by not taking those types of risks and it has worked out.

I wonder if that would have given us another W earlier this season?
