None of the other BSC religious schools have a prez that solicits the media limelight like JFJr. None of the other prez serve on a religious counsel for a political nomimee as JFJr. The blame should be spread around with Gill taking the major responsibility and JFJr the second highest responsibility.

Honestly why not try and lure Chadwell away with that amount of money? I think it would be a logical move with salary and facilities gap that Liberty and CSU have.
Money surely has to be the major reason for coaches to make their decisions on offers they receive. The flip side is that successful coaches, that are in demand, have a greater degree of discernment available to them when schools express an interest. The past and recent baggage LU is lugging around does make a huge impact on recruits, assistants, coaches, fan base and the perceptions from the media. The narrower LU makes it appeal, the fewer available and qualified coaching candidates and top level recruits there will be.

But that keeps us from winning games? My point is that we can't be labeled as a religious school and have that hurt us with recruiting while at the same time every other football school except Kennesaw State and Monmouth (I think) aren't religious schools. Presbyterian, Gardner Webb, Charleston Southern, they all have the "religious baggage" that we do, but they have the added baggage of having no money, which I'd argue is even worse. I don't think Jerry Jr.'s antics really plays a part in recruiting or in the performance of our sports. When I was looking for schools as a high school non-athlete, I wasn't familiar with Jerry Falwell, Sr. and the controversy surrounding him and what he's said. I think the athletes care more about the coaching, the facilities, the competition, the exposure, the academics, the benefits (things to do on and around campus, FCOA, etc.) and I feel Liberty has the best package, or at least should have the best package, in the Big South regardless of what Jerry Jr. does away from Liberty.

The difference is they are all pretty poor and lack the money to pour into FB. If PC had the money we have and still retained their ranking they would be exploding with talent after they built top notch facilities.

That's true. PC is a great school who has an enrollment of like 2,000. Liberty has like twice as many as the next closest school in on-campus enrollment which shows how much further Liberty should be ahead of these schools in football but isn't.

RE: Gill gone?
For the record, here are the rankings of the fellow Big South schools according to US News & World:

Liberty: National Universities, Ranking Not Published
Campbell: Regional Universities South, #30
Charleston Southern: Regional Universities South, #98 tied
Gardner-Webb: National Universities, #220 tied
Presbyterian: National Liberal Arts Colleges, #119 tied

High Point: Regional Colleges South, #1
Longwood: Regional Universities South, #31 tied
Radford: Regional Universities South, #47 tied
UNC Asheville: National Liberal Arts Colleges, #159 tied
Winthrop: Regional Universities South, #26

Monmouth: Regional Universities North, #38 tied
Kennesaw State: National Universities, Ranking Not Published

Per US News & World, I would say being a national university trumps being a regional university so Liberty would come out ahead of all but Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, UNC Asheville, and Kennesaw State. Depending on your view of liberal arts colleges, Liberty may be ahead of Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. Liberty is clearly behind Gardner-Webb. Regardless, I don't think Liberty's academics are a detriment to recruiting. They may not be a great selling point, but compared to our conference brethren, we aren't slacking.

The point is not LU, and many other BSC schools are religious schools. That's understood and the baseline those schools have. What's different about LU and what separates LU from all others is the past detrimental actions, statements, political activism, questionable decisions and overt, in your face, non religious/spiritual choices that have alienated FBS college prep, admins, recruits, coaches and more.

As a long term fan, this has been my frustration with Jr. and Sr. They are their worst enemies and unable to be contained and be wise with their rhetorical talk. They are unable to strike the balance of evolving the athletics department and advance the religious aspect of the school without offending as many as they stimulate.

Does anyone actually think LU is a likely candidate for any FBS conference at this time? The most excitement and closest LU has been to FBS was when LU years ago announced it's FBS intention. Not now. Let's hope my sentiments are wrong.

A sea of red has a list of coaching salaries for FCS. Gills total compensation is $750,000 according to that site. That's absured money. You think Jr and Barber are going to keep forking out that amount of cash for the results we're getting?

I think it's not too unreasonable to put accomplishment expectations on the HC. For example, win a minimum of 8 games and the BSC Championship next season or you will be let go.

RE: Gill gone?
It was obvious from watching the FCS games this year that LU was better and some cases superior to BSC schools Presby, Monmouth, Kennesaw, and GW.

Also blatantly inferior to Jax St, Coastal and CSU. It's either quality of players, the coaching prep of the players, or game day management. Gill has always talked the lingo to appeal to LU. His religious/spiritual mentions at most all press conferences and interviews appears to be autopilot statements rather than true to the heart beliefs. One wonders if he is being earnest or saying what he thinks need to be said.

Best case scenario is to provide him one more recruiting class and say playoffs and playoff victories are required or venture elsewhere. I've lost most all confidence in his leadership and recruiting skills. JaxSt, CCU and CSU simply took LU to the cleaners. Another year like that and he would have to go or risk a downward trend with attendance, like this year.

True, but what is an acceptable performance for a coach? Win the conference 2 out 3 years? Make it to the playoffs annually and win one or two games?

Eventually would that become stale and we pull an LSU/Georgia and get rid of a great coach in hopes the grass is greener on the other side?

And..... I believe HCTG's faith statements are genuine. That doesn't concern me, and I actually appreciate his words. I'm beginning to be more concerned that his coaching ability isn't genuine, but will still give him the benefit if the doubt... at least for one more season.

RE: Gill gone?
http://www.liberty.edu/flames/index.cfm?...03&TeamID=

Quote:Liberty Head Football Coach Turner Gill has announced that Dennis Wagner, assistant head coach and offensive line coach, has been relieved of his duties.

Wagner has served on Gill's staff for the last five seasons, guiding Liberty's offensive linemen. During his five-year tenure, 13 players earned All-Big South honors and 10 players were named to the VaSID All-State teams.

Last year, Jonathan Burgess, a former walk-on, capped off his stellar Liberty career by earned STATS FCS and Associated second-team All-America honors and being named to the CSN Fabulous Fifty All-America first team.

Some quotes from the article in there. Obviously the offensive line was atrocious this year but it has had some good results per the article. Right move? Wrong move? Something had to change.

Jerry said HCTG is safe for one more season. He wants the new AD and Gill to have one season together to right the ship.

I think this is a good decision. But , if he can't deliver 8 wins and a conference championship next year, I might think a change is in order.

This is good for Gill. I hope he gets a fair shake and turns Liberty into the program we think it can be. I am cheering for him.

This looks good for Liberty and potential coaches who would be afraid of Liberty firing coaches too quickly.

By year 6 you should be able to establish and stabalize a program.

That's true, but I'd say even earlier than that. Gill didn't inherit a dumpster fire. Rocco inherited a dumpster fire and turned us into a top 25 program. Gill arguably did better with Rocco's recruits.
