"This is pathetic"

"What a joke. Maric, Key and Bradley have been great. Our guards are shooting like 40% from the FT line and 20% from the field"

Saying that the way the end of the game went was pathetic and a joke is "freaking out"? Read the rest of thr posts. It was a good win but that doesn't mean you can't be critival of certain elements...like the way the end of the game was handled and our garbage guard play

Monty said in the post game that they didn't practice what to do in the last 5 seconds but he would have told them to foul.

How is that not discussed and practiced in the weeks leading up to the season starting? Or at the very least in one of the timeouts taken with less than 90 seconds left. I'm surprised he would even admit that. Seems bizarre.

I heard it. I don't think he thought it would come into play with the first game.

How can MM or a member of the coaching staff not have this in their practice plan. Every high school coach I know prepares for to be up by 3 with 20 seconds left in the game. It feels like our players have limited court sense in critical game situations. Is this problem caused because of MM and staff lack of game preparation?

RE: NIU vs Indiana St game thread
There are limited practices and so many things to cover. With frosh, and even sophs, the entire offensive package including multiple sets, BLOBS, SLOBS, motion offensive principles and all the defensive emphasis, it is not surprising that the up 3/foul-don't foul plan wasn't laid out prior to the first game....not to mention, they were out of time outs, a reliable player (albeit one who hadn't played in nearly three years) was at the line shooting two.........it is not something you can necessarily do on the fly--what if someone fouls in the act of shooting the three? what if it is an intentional foul--2 shots and the ball.......what do you do regarding box outs on hard rim rattling free throw? It is also tricky to talk about "when Dontel misses BOTH free throws, we will foul".........

and I don't think the guard play was "garbage" It was quite good defensively...limited turnovers fairly well, especially the first half....moved the ball well, got good shots, had no shot clock issues, got the ball inside quite well.........but they shot poorly--that happens and it doesn't make the guards play garbage........

RE: NIU vs Indiana St game thread
I'm glad they won but I'm not going to pretend the guard play was good because they played decent defensively (even though Scott had 28 points). The guards shot terribly and had a 1.0 turnover/assist ratio which would be around 200th in the nation team wise. I still think the team should be aware enough to foul in that situation too. Maybe I'll become an NIU basketball apologist at some point but I'm going to call it like I see it for now.

I like how the old timer thinks........enjoy the games and forget about the amateur analysis and griping especially over the stuff fans have no control over.

In their first game Ball St beat St.Louis easily at St.Louis in front of 7,000 fans that's pretty impressive. NIU should've beat Indiana St by about 6-7pts had they made a few free-throws at the end. The surprising part was that the game ended up in overtime.
