Young people voted for Trump
At least if they were white. White millennials went for Trump by 5 points.

And, of course, the "racist" Trump carried a higher % of Blacks and Hispanics than Mitt Romney.

I posted a couple of months ago that Millennials are more conservative via their age bracket than Boomers, X's were at similar age brackets.

The Millennials that I teach today are way more conservative than we Boomers were at their age. I'm constantly amazed at how much so.

Thoughts why? Access to alternative media, never really tuning into MSM? See parents get divorced for stupid reasons?

Maybe a lack of faith in politicians? I know trust in government began to fall off after Watergate, but Millennials have basically never lived in a country where people even remotely trusted their leaders.

I suspect they are more "independent" than conservative for the most part, and I could easily see many millennials drifting from a Bernie to a Trump to some future Libertarian type, as absurd as that sounds to someone who's been committed to principles.

I am pretty sure they are just not married to an ideology the way previous generations were. I do not think that's necessarily a bad thing, even though I think Bernie policies for example are bad. If they are willing to throw their weight behind different attempted solutions, that could be a positive thing.

We're the generation of inflated college debt, two wars, broken families, and massive youth unemployment. Why wouldn't we be conservative on many levels?

To be honest, we are a divided and extreme generation.

I think that's a good point, especially for those of us on the older end of the millennial spectrum. We were in high school on 9/11, it was our generation that was sent off to fight two aimlessly meandering wars, and the job market **** the bed as we were getting ready to make our way in the world. I agree that our generation more divided politically than we get credit for, but I think we all share a healthy level of cynicism.

RE: Young people voted for Trump
In no way shocking. The GOP has a shot to actually win over young people because the Dems pissed on the Bernie movement.
