Nope, and there's zero reason he shouldn't have won other than the complete stupidity that was HB2. State economy has been good, Trump won the state, Burr actually handled whats her face fairly easy, yet he found a way to probably lose to a completely nondescript ho hum candidate in Roy Cooper. For some reason he decided to stake his entire political career on a pissing match with the city of Charlotte. It was insanely stupid.

Yep. With the way NC was booming, he had a promising political career ahead of him. Might have been a VP pick in 2020 had Trump lost...still could have been if Trump decided not to seek a 2nd term (which is certainly possible given the fact that he's older and not a career politician type).

Instead, his political career is likely over. He'll get a cushy job with a lobbying group though I'm sure.

There are still between 6000 and 1000 absentee ballots and provisionals that won't be counted until the 15th. factor in a recount and it will likely be thanksgiving. Radio show out of Greenville that broadcast from Raleigh this morning said there were 8000 military absentee ballots to be counted on the 15th as well.

so you think McCrory carries those 14,000 votes by a 65/35 margin?

no clue. I'm sure he will carry the military votes by a larger margin than that, but where the provisionals are from will tell the story. I wouldnt be surprised if its between 500 and 1000 vote difference one way or the other.

I definitely voted McCrory in, but I couldn't give him an extra term. Any one of us would get fired for losing that many events and blaming everything else but his own writing hand.

I also couldn't keep Art Pope in an unelected and unaccountable position. Let him rot in that tan office on Facet Rd.

So you're just going to let Charlotte skate on HB2? Based on everything I've read, everything that's happened to NC is all Charlotte's fault. Yet you, and others, point the finger at the (possibly) outgoing Governor for NC's perceived (by liberals) bad situation.

Still letting Charlotte off the hook for all the events that left NC, I see.

He could've/should've let it go through the court. They acted so fast to get a rise out of his base because of the upcoming election.

He's a big advocate of saying "Let the issues in HB2 be decided on by the Supreme Court and let's keep it until that decision is made". He could've easily followed the process of taking the Charlotte ordinance to court and let it work its way through a lot quieter and a lot less controversially than an emergency session and rushed legislation.

You assume the LGBT's would've been quiet on an HB2 challenge.

It wouldn't have been HB2 in the first place if he took his "let the courts decide stance". No need to write a new law if they just took the Charlotte case to court.

It would've been a lot quieter if done that way. You'd surely have LGBT disapproval, but it wouldn't have been as loud as getting on all the national news. It would've offered more time to come up with an explanation of why he's challenging it instead of just having to say something quick because they stuffed the law through.

Charlotte passed an ordinance extending protections to the LGBT community. As far as I know the state didn't lose a single job or major event as a result of that.

McCrory didn't like the bathroom part of that ordinance, so he passed HB2 which extends far, far beyond bathrooms into employment discrimination, local minimum wage laws, etc. As a direct result of that, the state lost thousands of jobs, hundreds of millions of dollars, and received constant negative press.

Why is the city of Charlotte to blame? McCrory had lots of less extreme options for handling this. He went with HB2.

I disagree. I feel the LGBT reaction would've been louder and angrier had NC gone this route.

It was Charlotte who started this mess. If Charlotte had left things alone, as they were told, there wouldn't have been a problem and McCrory would be cruising to a 2nd term. They didn't and they're skating on getting the blame for NC's problems. Which you seem cool with.

yes, its called politics. Don't worry, the Charlotte mayor will also be getting the boot the next mayoral election. The same business people who voted against McCrory will also be voting against her.
