Matt Stewart lives in Atlanta and does the "best" SBC game of the week. Pretty soon I have a feeling you are going to get more and more home state guys. They will pay the local sports guy, if there is any in the area, a couple of thousand or so to do it.

Most of the announcers who call for ESPN3 and ESPNU are guys who have day jobs, and are simply contracted out by the company that hires for ESPN. For many they are trying to break into the Sports Broadcasting business, and this is the best way to do it. They are assigned games within driving distance that allows them the opportunity to easily cover a game and be back at work the following Monday.

I know one of the ESPN3 announcers whose called a few SBC games this year is former Pig QB Clint Stoerner, and he at last check, still works in radio in Little Rock full time. He was the color for USA/ULM

Yeah Clint Stoerner was terrible during the game. Both guys were awful. I hope that is the last game we have with him and Jim.

We are okay with Stoerner here because he is one of the few in Central Arkansas radio who acknowledges we exist.

A lot of games on Fox were done this way, at least last year. I watched a couple of games with Weinstadt and Leinart (can't remember the play by play guy) where they were in a studio. It was really weird and felt like the announcers were disconnected from the action, which makes sense. They also have to air the game on a delay because of it.

How often does this happen? Apparently, the announcers for the ASN game between ODU and Marshall called the game from a studio in Missouri. I would assume it happens quite a bit as it is expensive to send guys all over to call a game no one is watching. From a studio, they can call a noon game and a 4pm game too. Seems to make a lot of business sense, but it's pretty disrespectful to the teams.

Back to the future, I guess. This was common practice way back in the day. Ronald Reagan used to call Cubs games from a studio, reading off a ticker tape of the play by play.

It's a CUSA game. Would you go if you could get out of it?

As I understand it, the fans don't go either so why send the announcers.

Game was at ODU, 52nd sellout in a row.
