The List
After yesterday, it's obvious Tubs time is short here (32 days and counting), so who is on the list to replace him? It's been discussed (and buried) in other threads to date.
I'd say the list has to start with the obvious:
P.J. Fleck - Western Michigan - I'm sure he has higher aspirations than UC, but does a big boy P5 take a chance on him yet? He could well set himself up for a better P5 job with success here ala MD, BK or BJ. I'll 3-4 years of success than what we have witnessed the past 4 years.
Jeff Brohm - Western Kentucky - His dream job is UL and as soon as that opens up (and it will), he is gone down the river. If that is 3-4 years down the road, then okay if he can be successful during that time here.
Charlie Strong - Texas - If Texas cans him, would there be interest by lower P5 programs such as Purdue, Kansas, etc. in his services? Those seem to be coaching graveyards. He could go that route, take a job at a place like UC or return to a DC position at a good P5 school.
And now, maybe the not so obvious:
Brent Venables - Clemson DC
Tim Beck - OSU OC
Greg Schiano - OSU DC
Who ya got on your list?

RE: The List
Maybe add Tim Drevno.. OC and OL coach at Michigan who has been with Harbaugh since like 2004. West coast guy but he has MW ties through these 2 years at Michigan.

Yeah, I was thinking about him, too. No to anything from the current tO$U staff and Pelini.

3-6, the Domers aren't happy. Would love it, but he could get a job elsewhere paying much more than we could pay, most likely. Given that, if he had the slighest bit of interest, that would be a conversation I'd have in a heartbeat.

Give me Strong or Kelly. I'd be very happy with either. Known quantities

RE: The List
I would take BK in a HEARTBEAT. The fan base would instantly energize. The fans would also expect a return to 10 win seasons, top 15 rankings, and mega bowls. Could BK do that at UC in a G5 conference?
That remains to be seen. For sure the expectations would be through the roof if BK came back.

I don't want Strong. I'd take BK back in a heartbeat. Fleck would be great, but he's going to a bigger job.

agree on Strong...I wouldn't be happy with that hire.
Fleck would be amazing but it would have taken a B12 invite (thanks B12!)
Brohm would be a great pick

RE: The List
I want a Midwestern coach who is well-regarded by HS coaches in Ohio and neighboring states.
When Tubs came here, he said that recruiting within 200 miles was key. He was correct, but has failed miserably in that regard. In a recent thread, there was a claim that of the top 50 or 100 recruits in Ohio this year or last, none signed with UC. No program can withstand that degree of recruiting malfeasance.

I tend to agree, but it worked for Louisville (so far).

I think at this point Venable is out of question. He could end up being OU or KSU next coach

I don't think Kelly would even take the call.
Fleck will get P5 offers.
Strong and Kiffen would be interesting.

I was going to say it worked for Petrino. That being said even if he would happen to be available I seriously doubt we catch lightning in a bottle twice.
We will probably end up with some MAC grad assistant.

RE: The List
A somewhat riskier bet - although we may catch lightning in a bottle - would be Jason Candle at Toledo. He's still in his first year as head coach, but has a full-on Ohio pedigree, having played and coached at Mount Union before moving up the ranks at Toledo.
