Anthony Wilson played.

We have tons of depth at safety for sure. I think we have a couple really talented freshman redshirting too. I've been impressed with Miskel and Williams and neither one play all that much. Byrum was a big time prospect and doesn't play.

Correct,... I meant Williams.

Weather forecast for game time -- sunny to partly cloudy with zero chance of rain, temps in the low 50s / upper 40s, wind 10-15 mph. A little cool, but good football weather!

Lawry might get 200+ yards if we get a lead in the first half, and just keep to running the ball in the 2nd. Go ODU!

Is that official?

I don't believe official word is out yet, but the USM board seems to think so.

Harry just wrote an article on the situation also: http://pilotonline.com/sports/college/ol...05408.html

USM Coach Jay Hopson on the Charlotte game, and the upcoming ODU game. He mentions that he thinks Mullens will be fine.

I remember Heincke was concussed but played the following game, bu there was a bye week in between. I don't think he would have played without the bye. From what I read Mullens was completely out on his feet; I wonder if he really should be playing.

Heinicke, also, didn't have symptoms until later that evening. Concussions are funny things. Some people recover quickly. Other people have lingering effects. Remember Nik Biberaj? He couldn't even sit on the bench during games for about 2 weeks, because of the noise and lights. I thought he was going to be out a really long time, but apparently, once he started to get better, he got better fast. Hopefully, whichever kind he has, they do the right thing for the young man's future health.

Was listening to radio last week and someone who was talking said that more often than not if you actually get knocked out you don't have as bad or long lasting of symptoms as if you get hit hard and don't go out. No idea if that was true or not.

Yeah, I'm clearly speaking from an uninformed position that wants USM to sit all their good QBs.

And...hope that sitting Mullens and Adanson don't force the removing of the Redshirt of another Taylor Heinicke, or Terry Bradshaw.

I watched this interview and I think I heard him say that they are 23rd in total offense and 20th in total defense. And that their real problem is turnover margin. When asked about ODU he mentioned a few generic things like he hadn't looked at any tape yet.

He also mentioned that he didn't want to talk specifics about the,QB injuries. He wanted to "keep it in house". Not sure what's going on there.

I've had 2 concussions back when I played football.
1st I had delayed symptoms as well. Sucked having to stay up all night too.

The second one during the following season right away I started throwing up and couldn't get on the school bus for a few days.

I wouldn't put any stock in anything fans or coaches from USM are saying about this game. Their season is on the line and their back is against the wall -- and they are not this year's version of Marshall.

I took a look at their freshman QB. Here is what their roster bio has to say.

http://www.southernmiss.com/sports/m-foo...22075.html

Here's his Hudl video. There seems to be some disagreement between the two sources as to his size, but he looks pretty good and was a three-star recruit. We might get to see him Saturday.

I fully expect Southern Miss to come out guns a blazin. I'm expecting a very difficult game. I really don't agree with posters that are dismissing USM, there only issues have been turnovers. And turnovers are fluky.

Having said that, of course we would much rather face a freshman QB rather than one of the best QBs in the conference in Mullins. The only issue is we are going to probably have to prepare for both a pocket passer and a running QB.

Lol. Just shows where we really are with concussion management in some programs. With all these lawyers lining up for tort money from the NFL and the NCAA, it's hard to think anyone can just keep the cause of the injury "in house".

I saw last week's game in Hattiesburg. Mullens was yanked down hard on his head by Charlotte's DL Nick Carroll--some of you might remember him as an ODU recruit. His head was the first thing that banged the hard turf as he was tacked. Mullens lays there for about 15-20 seconds while his OL tries to encourage him to get up. He struggles to his feet, looks to the sidelines dazed, and proceeds to stand in the backfield like a statue while letting the clock run to zero for a delay of game penalty--he might have had all of 25 seconds to get the play off BTW. At this point, the USM coaches still do not remove him but a ref walks over after calling the penalty, puts his arms around Mullens and walks him off the field because he clearly wasn't right. He spends quite a while (several drives) out of the game before the USM coaches curiously put him back into the game later for a play or two. They needed production pretty badly as Charlotte maintained a two score lead but Mullens just wasn't accurate at that point. So he sat the bench the rest of the way and didn't look like himself at all.

Now maybe he didn't have a severe head injury or maybe he is having a real speedy recovery...who knows? But keeping the overall injury "in house" is probably not what Coach Hopson should've said if he is really trying to get him back on the field this week. USM isn't Ole Miss in profile, but it isn't Alcorn State either. I worry about him, especially the way Ximines, Fox, Toal and Cowart are playing at home. Mullens is going to hit the ground again and I shutter to think about him actually having his head hit again after watching their game last Saturday.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer methinks.

The top 20 defense is based on total yards given up. Their scoring defense rating and ypp defense rating are much lower meaning they're giving their opponents great field position.

Disappointing news to relay about the flyover we had planned for Saturday. Unfortunately we got word today that the squadron that volunteered to do the flyover is now unavailable. Sorry for the crappy news, we're always at the mercy of this happening when its a military flyover.
