RE: Arkansas State - Georgia State 11/3/16 *Official Game Thread*
The bottom line is the red wolf offense has been terrible all year outside of last week's tussle with the worst defense in the country. They can move the ball between the 30's all they want, but my god if their red zone offense isn't atrocious. Troy has the #1 Red Zone defense in the country (vs conference), and the #4 Red Zone Defense vs all teams nationally, so I can't really imagine ARKST having a lot of success on that front. We also have a Top 10 Special Teams Unit, so what they did vs GSU won't fly. ESPN has Troy's special teams at #10 and GSU's at #123. Our D-Line is also much better than GSU's, so if they bring last night's O-Line, Troy could have a field day. ARKST is going to have to find another way to win (which they certainly might, don't misunderstand me). They'll have to find some more of that "untraditional magic" that's got them this far. I do think they'll have be mistake free to win, but so far they haven't shown they can play anything close to mistake free. My opinion? Turnover Margin will determine this game.

But that's skewed by stadium sizes in some markets. Kansas City and Portland generally have more willing buyers than seats.

I listened to Jesse Itzier (Hawks minority owner) get interviewed on the They Never Played the Game podcast. Another organization that gets it.

Ummm no....lol. KSU is in Kennesaw and can't fill a soccer stadium with 8300 seats. And you do get that the Braves are just in another tinier part of Atlanta right? :)

He was just terrible, and they still were in the game until Ark St. got a late TD from starting the drive on the 7.

That was the ugliest football game I've watched all year, luckily only the second Ark St. game I've watched (GS being the other). I'm not sure how you guys haven't lost a couple years off your lives this year watching your team.

But thanks for covering!
Especially when you do not have to play that talent.

Obviously there are other factors other than talent involved in any game, and I confess figuring that out is above my head and I defer to those that know more than I do, but having more talent is normally a good thing.

There is a growing consensus that only reason A-State is beating anyone under Blake Anderson is they have more talent than most of the teams they have played, which is every SBC team.

They have not pulled many surprises under Anderson, and I get the impression that most people associated with their program now realize he is a work in progress, and I think they are trying to help him overcome some shortcomings.

Completely missing the point. You act like Ark St. was more talented at every position, which wasn't true by any means outside of the QB position. I actually watch games.
We gifted two special teams TDs.

No. You gifted one ST turnover that led to an offensive TD. Blocking FGs and returning punts are things that teams actually work hard on in practice and scheme for in games. Virginia Tech won a lot of games due to their special teams preparation.

Sailing one over the punter's head, yeah, that is a gift.
My mistake. You're invincible. LOL

Hardly, and I did not indicate as such in any manner. Surely, you are smart enough to know that there are players on special teams and defense who are working to make plays? When a pitcher strikes someone out we credit the pitching. When a 6'10" forward blocks a shot we don't say the shooter "gifted" anything.

I wouldn't call them gifts, but you can't count on special teams to bail you out versus teams that also have great special teams. The only offensive TD's you scored were both inside the 10 for reasons that won't be available to you in most games. You've gotten yards in most games, as wolfbird and chief have noted, but for whatever reason you can't score when you have to drive the length of the field. That's a trend, not a recent or single game issue.

Blah blah bla. We should have won last night and Miles should not have a job today. The End

That's certainly a fair statement and I don't doubt your teams ability to win out. You guys have a culture of winning that's going to be hard to beat. That said, this year's red wolf squad makes a lot more mistakes and is much more predictable on offense. Buster Faulkner could legitimately derail all of that winning culture all by himself. This is not the squad that broke the SBC record putting up 49 points per game in SBC play. I'm not at all certain my Trojans will prevail, but we have a decent chance, one would think.

Guys, a long snapper snapping the ball over the kickers head IS a gift to the opposing team. There was no action or effort from the defense that caused that.

Blocking a kick usually requires some action on the part of the defense.

I really don't care if we win with offense, defense or special teams. It has taken a little of all of it to win thirteen in a row and 4 of 5 titles. Sooner or later it has to slow down a little but until then....

I think he's just saying that you guys were far more dominant against Sun Belt teams coming into the App game last year than you guys have been this year coming into Troy. Can't deny you've still been winning though.

We gave up 27, 31, 34 and 35 in the first four league games last year. This year, 26, 7, 10 and 16. Just a different way to skin a cat.

I quit my job in the Cumberland area partially because I didn't want to deal with it. It's going to be a mess. Still takes me an hour to go 11 miles home!
