RE: Week 9 Power Rankings
Honest question. Are APP fans sandbagging? I feel like most APP fans probably feel like their team is better (I don't blame them) but aren't quite ready to come out and say it. For everyone else, what's your reasoning for putting Troy #1? I can see Troy as high as #1 and as low as #3. I honestly have no clue where we are in that mix.

I still have Troy #1 because of the way you hung in there with Clemson. We had the close loss to Tennessee, but they have fallen off since. Also, we have the blowout loss to Miami on the resume, who has also tanked. Meanwhile, Clemson is still undefeated and sitting pretty in the ACC. It's a good thing Troy and App get to settle it on the field in 11 days.

Troy's only loss was a close loss to undefeated Clemson. App has the Miami blowout on their record, thus I currently give a slight edge to Troy. Should be a very interesting game on 11/12 considering Troy was the place in 2014 where everything changed for the positive for App.

I had App above Troy until the Miami game. They just didn't keep it close enough to stay above Troy for me.

Troy hasn't done anything to lose their #1 ranking since they took it over in my rankings.

RE: Week 9 Power Rankings
I think the hesitation with App right now is the lack of explosiveness on offense, in fact they're one of the worst teams in the country in terms of explosive plays. They're playing really well on defense, and plain jane on offense. The good news is that they are very efficient and keep the chains moving as long as they stay on schedule...good enough to be in the top 20 of teams in success rate. They're suffering on 3rd down right now though, so it's somewhat easy to derail their offense if they don't stay on track.

Troy meanwhile is in the top 25 in explosiveness. People see their ability to bust big plays. App will grind you, but Troy wants to score big and fast.

App has a better than average chance in every game they play. But as long as they grind on offense, and give teams opportunities to hang around, they might push their luck a little too far. That's likely the major cause of concern among their fans.

But if you LET them grind you, you're in trouble.

RE: Week 9 Power Rankings
SunBeltbbs Power Poll just for fun (first place votes in parentheses):

Troy 127.5 (7.5)
Appalachian State 124.5 (4.5)
Arkansas State 108
Idaho 88
South Alabama 80
Georgia Southern 79
UL-Lafayette 63
Georgia State 46.5
New Mexico State 36.5
UL-Monroe 22.5
Texas State 16.5

Only 12 voters so far, but a nice picture of where the fans see each team at this point in the season.

I have Troy in second because they've not been all that impressive recently against weak competition: a 10 point win over GSU at home and having to come from behind to beat USA. App has looked solid since week 4 against better competition, hence the #1 over the Trojans.

I can realistically see Troy dropping 3 of their remaining games. I can only realistically see App dropping 1.

I'm assuming you're referring to Troy potentially losing to App and stAte, who's the third?

To be fair App only beat GSU by 14 and we gave up a late TD to GSU as we were up 17.

USA is a rival so different emotions in that one. And app hasn't played USA. USA is jekle and Hyde anyhow.

CNB has stated if we play like we have the last 2 weeks we probably won't win the league. I imagine he knows he's gotta get the boys playing like beginning of year.

And who's the 3rd team we could lose to? Lol

App held GSU scoreless except for a 43 yard FG in the 4th quarter. You performed arguably worse against USA than ULL did. You can make excuses in both directions. App doesn't need excuses, thus why I put them in first place.

Southern is the third team. That game is still a way out, giving GS a chance to get something that works for them going, and it's in Statesboro. Unlikely, yes. I wouldn't get the farm on it. But it wouldn't shock me.

Well on the flip side of that GSU held App scoreless in first half. You can't always compare games.
USA is a rival. Can't compare it to ULL. Lots of time rivalry games can be close no matter the records. And we all know USA can beat about anyone as they beat a ranked and Miss State team

We will let the game speak for itself come Nov. 12. To say who the better team is right now is pointless and could obviously go back n forth either way. Bottom line is, come game day I think both teams know what they are up against and will come ready to play. If both teams are playing a 3 phase game it's going to be a shoot-out.

Troy beat USA when they were playing one of their 'good' games. No one really beats USA by a lot of points. I have no idea who wins the Troy / App game.

RE: Week 9 Power Rankings
I know this power poll is debated fiercely each week, but I really have seen teams settle in and prove who they are by this point.

1. Troy / App State (this will get worked out shortly on November 12th)
3. Ark St (once again these guys epically fail in OOC games and somehow pull it together for conference)
4. Idaho (looking to be headed toward a bowl game)
5. USA (could beat anyone but could also lose to basically anyone)

Everyone else.....
