Sometimes those lines are completely arbitrary, but sometimes it's to keep consistent with other city zoning issues.

If I'm being really cynical about it, it can be a compromise. Often times one party wants something to be totally illegal and the other wants to put it where they want. X feet is usually out of sight of the offended party, but close enough to the location that the other wants to be. We see this with bars, apartment complexes, adult things, etc.

If a 23 week old fetus can't survive outside the mother, then there's nothing to talk about.

I have no idea if that's possible or not. Assuming 36 weeks is the normal pregnancy period.

I'm pro-choice within reason.

These types of laws try to combat the abortion problem in the wrong way.

There is legal leverage to challenge when abortions can occur, instead of trying to fight through backchannels where abortions can take place.

No abortion on demand should be available after the first trimester without a medical reason.

The people responsible are the mothers and maternal responsibility, not knowing if you are pregnant, should not be paid for in the blood of infants.

so just because it needs support to survive doesn't make it human? You want to go down that slippery slope?

That's a fallacy.

It's very easy and well within reason to make developing fetuses be their own legal case, and not have any relevance to existing, born humans that need life support. 07-coffee3

A fetus does not have standing, period.

I suppose facts and common sense seem like bull**** to someone that considers abortion less than murder. What a morally repugnant position to stake.

common sense? if I somehow got HOOD on my side in an abortion thread I think it's pretty clear the law is BS.

There are a wide number of businesses not allowed within 2000 feet of schools.

remember that texas plant explosion that leveled a school nearby? THAT'S why they can't operate near schools.
I suppose strip clubs blow up as well and that's why they aren't generally allowed near a school

got to draw the line somewhere I guess.

Usually the murder line is pretty clear.
