Rice's best NFL pro?
Andrew Sendejo is having a heck of a year for a Vikings team which has the best defense in the league. He got his 2nd interception of the year and almost returned it for a touchdown. He also has two fumble recoveries this year. He could be an all-Pro this year if he keeps it going. When was the last time we had an all-Pro in the NFL (without looking it up, I think Larry Izzo was a special team all-pro but I don't recall the last guy on offense or defense)?

RE: Rice's best NFL pro?
I meant Sendejo was the best current pro in the NFL. I'm not trying to compare him to some of the past greats of the 1950's through 1980's. Although it does appear Minnesota is going to lose its first game today.

Sendejo got hurt on the int return and I believe did not return for the rest of the game. I think they said it was an ankle injury. Hopefully not too serious.

Boswell has missed two today, albeit one of them a 54 yarder.

That's who I was thinking of when I asked the "current or all-time" question.

You could also include Larry Izzo if by best you mean most success.

Gotta be Bryce Callahan this year. He's graded out as one of the best corners in the league according to PFF.

He also made 3 field goals. They finally gave him some chances to kick. Pittsburgh is a different team without Big Ben.

Tommy Kramer. QB being the most important position, Tommy being a former all-pro player who became the first NFL QB ever to pass for 450 yard twice, and one year was the highest rated QB in the league.

Current: Sendejo. This year people are taking notice that he's a major player for the dominant Viking defense.

Both Vikings!

I'd argue that, in terms of best representing Rice and what Rice is, Dr. Frank Ryan is the best professional athlete Rice has ever had.

Not many people could pull off being the last championship Browns qb as a side job while teaching at Case Western Reserve.

Irrelevant to the discussion, as he was just in the right place at the right time, but Earl Cooper leads all Rice athletes in SI covers with (I think) four.

He recounted that his father urged him to complete his graduate degree; a football career was good, but he could always count on $5,000 a year teaching.

Michael Downs was undrafted and was on the all rookie team, all pro and 2 x all conference.
Darryl Grant played 11 seasons and won 2 superbowls as a DL, played OL for Rice.
Courtney Hall was 4 x pro bowler

Lots of ways to describe 'the best'.

Personally I'd pick Boz, because we all know kicking is the hardest job. 05-stirthepot

Surprised no one has mentioned Bill Howton. When he retired he was the NFL all-time leader in receptions and yardage surpassing the great Don Hutson.
