I think tonight's game did that in a big way. I think we can now look at the program as progressing properly.

Much needed win. Took care of business. If you look at the big picture it appears this bunch is right on track. The coaches do have their work cut out over the next couple of seasons juggling the players but that is the tough thing about starting a new program

ETSU got thrown to the wolves this year and they'll be fine going forward. Mercer only won 1 SoCon game in 2014, and you guys already matched that.

I don't know the rules 100%, but I don't think a team can just add 63 scholarships from 0. I think it has to be gradual. I might be wrong. Regardless, ETSU is doing the correct method to have them distributed evenly between FR/SO/JR/SR classes.

Good luck in this game! I've been following your team more than any other SoCon team, since we're both (re)start ups.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

Good luck to you all as well.

You can bring in 30 per year in fcs vs 25 a the fbs level (with some complicated exceptions).

I would venture to guess you have more than 40-44 playing on scholarship or you've suffered some bad attrition. You should have three classes on your roster now with a minimum of 15-20 in each class.. and probably more like 25 counters from year one.

Average fcs classes are around 17 counters receiving some aid. While I can't speak for ETSU, Kennesaw used this approach:
- year one.. huge freshman class. All have to redshirt. Took 29.
-year two.. small class. Around 16. 50/50 split with transfers and high school kids. All but one freshman redshirted.
Year 3- slightly above average high school class. Around 19 with all redshirting but around 5.

We have about 10 rides not being used. Should equate to 10-13 players depending on how we split. However thanks to the transfers in the second class we will also be graduating a small senior class and getting those rides back.

Since we are in such similar positions I thought I'd share. Good luck rest of the way.

There's been attrition, but it's not been bad and in some cases, it's been walk ons, one of which still stings. Shawn Prevo could've been a dominant FCS football player, instead we'll one day read about him getting arrested again.

If the 40-44 number that Coach Torbush and others have said is true then my guess is that ETSU may have done it somewhat opposite than KSU. I am thinking that they probably gave out fewer scholarships initially and plan/have gave out increasingly more scholarships each year. My guess is they think they can get better athletes on scholarship once the program has been up and running and they have a stadium.

I think you may have only used 44 scholarships. However I think you have a lot more than that on scholarship. At least some of those are partials.
