Since Frazier's coming in...I see a few things that have not enhanced the gameday experience.

This year -
**$4 bottle of water in the stadium?? All food prices up significantly.

**Basically the loss of the marching band. I don't see any reason any more to even make them sit in the stadium for the whole game. With the video board taking over & assaulting us constantly with that horrid PA system the band should just be able to leave after half time. It's not like they're actually heard any more during the game. The band is playing & the video/audio people play some crap song right over the top of them. And that overdone 3rd down bell chiming?? STOP doing it. It's so overdone everywhere now.

** I have a friend who is an NIU campus police officer. He tells me that medical calls in the stadium are way up since the beer sales have started. People taking a header down the steps is not so uncommon on the west side now. People wanted beer...

I feel cheated as a season ticket holder. FOUR Sat. home games is not enough.

Fire everyone. Including STF.

I have not heard a Carey backer since last season! If there is, he/she does not know very much about football!

I remained a Carey backer. He pulled off the wins against Toledo and WMU last season, I treated the MACC game as an unlikely win, and the Boise State game as an embarrassing fluke by the coordinators.

But this season. Ugh. 03-weeping so much solid talent on this team, utterly wasted. the play calling is atrocious. you can see it immediately when the team moves up tempo. they slice through the defense. and then its back to the same old. Bubble screen, Bougnon for three yards.

and WTF is this BS with the team getting set for the snap and then all looking up to the sideline?

Is this some attempt at ransom by Carey to get bought out? As disappointing as this season is, next season is going to be just as bad. The lack of emerging talent and no clear QB is going to kill us.

That is because you are Rod'a doppelgänger.

I've seen you mention the team getting set and then looking to the sidelines a few times. That's intentional and a larger trend in CFB. It's the modern audible...get set, D has to tip hand, and then the look over is prompted by the coaching staff who is determining if they need to check out of the original call. Pretty smart actually...but it's another reason why the NFL sucks...these QB's coming out have had the staff cutting their meat for them.

touche. without Rod, halloween is very tough for me.

While it is true he likely can't be fired for cause and have his contract terminated, there is no reason why NIU can't move forward with a different head coach. The university is obligated to pay out his contract regardless if he trolls the sidelines or not. That said, I understand we are not Notre Dame, Auburn, or LSU that can swallow a heavy contract buyout and bring in another high priced coach. At the least, we can bring in a coach as an "employee at will" with no contract that can run the team in the interim of Coach Carey's buyout expiring. It is not an ideal situation, however many collegiate coaches in a myriad of sports are employees at will and it wouldn't be unprecedented to have a young coach take the reigns with a reasonable and affordable salary negotiated and no contractual obligation outside of each given school year.

No coach you'd want running an FBS football program is going to find those terms acceptable and you'd be completely unable to put together a competent coaching staff without offering them competitive contracts. It would also absolutely annihilate recruiting.

Many assistants are already at will or on one year contracts. Terminating Carey from his position would not affect the Huskie supporting football staff from a financial aspect. Your fiscal approach towards the assistant coaches would remain unchanged.

I disagree that you would not find any competent coaches that would be willing to work on a year to year basis in the interim while waiting out an expiring contract. I am not suggesting that you pay your new head coach a rate similar to what Applebees might pay a line cook; I'm simply suggesting there is a work around to bring in a new coach at an affordable yearly salary while you wait out the Carey buy out.

You can't tell me that there isn't either a young guy with eyes on moving up in the coaching world or a veteran coach that never received the chance to be a head coach that wouldn't jump at the opportunity to helm a program, even if it wasn't exactly on terms they might prefer.

You are absolutely right; it would be terrible for recruiting. What is the alternative, however? We have watched NIU go from the most dominant mid-major in college football to arguably the worst in just four seasons. If NIU truly can't afford to release Carey and bring in a coach under the traditional path, they have to think outside the box. This can't continue with Coach Carey. I fear that two years from now the program might be in such shambles that it is permanently ruined.

This is not rock bottom. This is average. The Huskies beat a bad MAC team and lost to two good MAC teams. That's what the average MAC team does. It is much worse than the previous six years, but it could be even worse still. Go back to the mid nineties. That's what rock bottom looks like.

Rock Bottom will come in Chicago against Toledo, when not even a quarter of the stadium is filled and NIU is beat soundly on national TV.

Rock bottom is when we don't win any games and we have a weak schedule.

That would still be average.
